He left to go where, Boot Camp at Great Lakes? College? What is his 'field' of study, job in the Navy?

You will find a lot of information on the Boot Camp site on this page then.
Groups can be found by clicking on the tab 'Groups' at the top of this page just under the banner. You will want to look for 'Indiana' and for the largest of the many 'Boot Camp' sites.
As far as not hearing from him, he will write on Sunday...phone calls are earned, so don't expect them. Keep writing him positive and uplifting notes. No news is good news for the most part, he is busy learning the Navy way.
If he isn't much of a writer, then send him a note with simple questions that require short or one word answers that he can answer as he is reading the note. Include a self addressed, stamped envelope that he can drop the note back in and drop in the mail.
