That's exactly why we are driving up from Texas. I do not want to chance something to happen with the flight especially that time of year. I missed my son's first call the night they arrived. I was devastated - even though we spoke at both airports before he went to the base. I was so excited to get his box of dirty clothes and the form letter. He made his first call yesterday. I have had that dang phone attached to my body every minute since he left. I had it in a backpack on my back... by the time I got the backpack off and opened, I had missed the call. I broke down. People thought I was having a nervous breakdown and I guess basically I was. Luckily he called back immediately and we were able to talk for about 20-25 mins. It was wonderful to hear his voice and hear the strength. He already sounds so grown up. Hopefully 04/018 will be a positive change and he'll find life long friends.
