- I am a proud mom of 6 beautiful children. Twin girls-22 years old, a step-son, in the Army-21 years old, his wife stationed in Korea, son-about to leave for Navy-20 years old and 16 year old son. I am very proud that my son is about to make a huge step in his life as a Navy Sailor. I am also very excited to see his growth in this new path of his life.

Yay! Jakes Mom! I found someone in my son's division. Have you got your box yet? I got mine on Friday. No letter, yet. Where did your son leave from? My son is 21, he is my stepson, but I have raised him. He and my son are best of friends. My younger one is 18 and is also at Great Lakes.

PIR was wonderful, stayed at the Courtyard Marriott, had made plans in advance to meet other moms from my son's division through private e-mail as my son is in Spec Ops. Go to Sarge's Meet and Greet, it ended up being our dinner, we only expected appetizers, leave a donation, we bought alcoholic drinks from the bar. He is wonderful, called him Saturday for information about following the buses to the airport. Spoke with moms in the division in the bleachers, once they announce Liverty, everyone rushes to the floor, my son saw us before we saw him, quick photos inside as there are no photos allowed on base. My son had to go back to his ship, we met him at the NEX. Then parked by the Metra, (right next to base) bought our tickets on the train, get off at the last stop (Ogilvie) and took a cab to navy Pier (very touristy) but we walked and talked and had lunch. Walked around some more took a cab back to Olilvie Station, drove onto base and parked at the NEX, went inside, our sailor met others - they sat and talked while my husband and I sat and talked to other parents. We got Saturday as he flew out Sunday morning. They are allowed cell phones on liberty, can not take them back on base. Followed the buses to the airport during the night (he flew out of Midway) and had cells, laptops, iPods, iPads and bags of goodies from other parents we gave to their sailors, I made cookies, someone's grandma made brownies. The USO guy was a jerk very rude to the guys and girls, I told him to stop and am writing to the USO main office in Illinois about him.
