HI! Let me know what info you'd like and I will pass it along. The guy I used for the shuttle is Sarge and I'll look up his number on my phone and send it to you. Any thing else you'd like to know. I see your son left in June for BC? My daughter's PIR was 5/6.. what an amazing time. I feel for you, BC is very difficult, as a mom, to get through. Write everyday and keep encouraging him...
Hey! Sorry, I had it on my cell phone and I never have my cell phone around when I get on the computer! LOL
Here is Sarge's number.... 847-212-0246
He is a wealth of information, definitely use him.
As far as grad-n-go... they changed the policy in March, so there is no "grad-n-go".. everyone, unless they are going to school in GL, will be flying out on Sat. for their A school. I am sure there are some exceptions, but the general rule is to plan on them leaving sat. for A school. My daughter left at 9AM from O'hare on Sat. we did go to the airport at 5AM to spend time with her before she left. Delta is really good about giving family gate passes, but I had to go to the counter at US Air to get one for us. Have your sailor go to the tix counter and ask.
If you have any other questions, just ask! :) It is a great time and an amazing PIR!
Sorry, after I answer your question I will have to unfriend you due to my son's security level. Yes, we did stay at the Hilton Garden Inn. We had a lovely room, very comfortable beds. They have a work out room, and the pool/hot tub are in doors. Good for us as the weather was poor when we were there. We booked online with the Naval Grad package. I think the rates were about $79/night. This included our morning breakfast (which was very nice) The drive to base is about 20minutes. You can take the back roads with no tolls or the express way with tolls. We brought a roll of quarters with us. We rented a car and drove back and forth to base. A lot of people scare you away from driving to PIR. I am glad we drove. We had no problem with security or driving. We did get there early. We were able to spend about and hour with our son just after PIR then he had to pack and move. He stayed in GL and then had liberty for the weekend. So we were able to go back and pick him up. He had to remain in uniform and needed to be back on base in his room by 2100. But by Saturday we were able to pick him by 0730. So we drove into Chicago and spent the day seeing the city. They really dont feel like doing much except seeing their family and relaxing. Not sure what type of A school your son will be in so be flexible and open minded as he may have duty or have limited liberty. There is a nice beach in Lake Forest and it has a nice community with some good restaurants. Hope this helps.
