You'll be glad to hear that tourism is the #1 industry here on Guam. There are so many things that are available to make your stay here super smooth. If you are not planning on staying on base when you come to visit, I recommend staying in a hotel in Tumon (90% of all hotels are in this place along a beach strip). You can find night stays for $80+, and you can ask for a military discount. If you don't carry a military ID you can have the reservation under his name and have him come check in with you. Note that Tumon is not near the base; its about 25 miles away (20-30 minute drive). The closest place to stay near the base that I can think of is right outside it's back gate, "Inn on the Bay" in Santa Rita. But... there's really not much to do in that area. Southern Guam is more rural than northern Guam.

As for transportation, there are shopping buses that travel in routine routes to each major shopping mall (some even to the weekend village flea market). There are two types of buses that are obviously for travelers - the trolleys with open air and rails, and big ole airconditioned ones that are extravagantly decorated for hot days. It's only $3 per way or like $20 for a whole day of rides and like I said, they operate in rounds so eventually the round will end up right back at your starting place. You can also rent a car online ahead of time. Hertz is the on-site rental place at the airport. Driving here is easy. 35mph highest speed limit, and you can get lost and just keep driving on the main road and you'll end right back where you started in a few hours. It's pretty much one big road here.

Also, when you go out dining or shopping, we have a couple local apps and websites that offer coupons and discounts such as 671coupons.com, and companies' facebook pages. This is just a snapshot of a little bit of everything. I can get into detail of more you want to know specifically. It's no problem.
