brand new to navy experience. son is 19 and just finished boot camp. sub school and assigned to Bremerton, WA this past May. Just deployed last week for Guam/Japan for sub qualifications.
Welcome to NavyforMoms.com. My name is Ronny and my son has been in the Navy since February of 2012. He is currently stationed in San Diego with a Helicopter Squadron. He is an Aviation Structural Mechanic. I hope you find all the info you are looking for here, and if you have any questions feel free to ask. My son is 3rd Generation Navy, so I do know a little about the Navy..:)
If you have a new Sailor who is in Boot Camp, or leaving soon, visit CallsforRecruits.org and I will send you FREE Pre-Paid Phone cards for your SR to use while they are in boot camp. I started that program when my son left for Boot Camp :)
My Sailor is soon to have his first underway (he's an MA and has been land based until this billet). so I am not sure how calls work. We've done well with Skype and fB when he has been stationed on other continents and he has a Skype account so that he can call anywhere in the US from his computer. Some people have mentioned Pennytalk, but I haven't looked into that seriously. I've heaard email is the best way to stay in contact when they are underway. There's not a separate group fo the USS Kentucky. Take care and blessings to you and yours.
