The Navy offers opportunities that...
That I have a lot to learn - I said this when he was joining bootcamp, and now, then was a lost A-school Mom, now just finding out he'll be in Sasebo, I'm lost all over again! :) Updated to "he's getting settled in his navy life and has been underway for awhile" - this is not easy for him or for us. But we take it a day at a time. Although he has an extra day on us w/time difference! LOL!!

When your son goes to Sasebo has nothing to do with where the ship is at. When my daughter went, the Essex was in port in the Phillippines and 2-3 days after she arrived in Sasebo the flew her down to meet the ship. Others have said their sailors waited in port until the ship returned. Enjoy your time home with your son. You'll have to start getting use to not having him home for more and more family events. This year Katie will turn 21 just before Christmas and celebrate with friends in Japan, then she will be coming home on leave after Christmas.
