Congrats on getting the box. Live in Washington State and no box today. Looking forward to getting it and be able to start sending letters. My son told me that he didn't want us to write but I told him there's no way he's not getting any mail on mail day. He'll love getting it even if he wont admit it. Want to get our trip booked. I think the day I am most excited about is PIR. Guarantee that will be more emotional for me then the day he left. Can't wait to hear when you get a call or a letter.
I got the box yesterday. Husband left it for me to open. Held it together and didn't fall apart. Was just excited to finally get it. Everything was exactly what I've read about. Clothes all balled up, cell phone in shoe and his jeans were rolled up at the bottoms. After talking to a mom found it was because of being fitted for PT sneakers. Excited to get his address and start sending letters and really looking forward to seeing him and seeing the changes in my son that this whole journey will have on him. Have a great day!
He should at least have liberty on PIR day. Until 8 or 9 pm. Then, if he flies out on Sat., you can meet him at the airport and wait with him, even at the gate until the plane leaves (with an airlines gate pass). They bus them out there as a group in the wee hours of the morning on Sat. You can meet up with them at the USO.
Don't know how much has changed in A School since my son was there...it has been a long time ago!!!. I know their classwork was on the computer and separated into "mods". He found that one of the mods was pretty tough and longer than the others. However, like I said, alot could have changed since he was there. It is a self-paced program so some may finish in just about 6-8 weeks, and others may take a week or so longer. The only bad thing is that when he was there, most of them were "held" for a long time after graduation until their written orders came in (verbals came in earlier). I think he was there for almost 4 weeks after he finished before he could head home for leave! Hard for them...because they are anxious to get home for leave before heading to duty station.
The YN many times work with the top officers, and my son really enjoyed that. He only got to sail once, on a carrier out on a "workup" after repairs to the flight deck (his carrier is still in dry dock). He said they worked long hours, but in the office area and they ran movies in there part of the time.
