Hello Aaron'smom!  Welcome to Navy for Moms.  You will find lots of support here; that is what this website is for.  I did not find N4Ms until my son had been in the Navy for 2 years or more and I wish I would have known about it earlier.

I came to your page to answer a question you asked in the SECF group that was not answered.  Yes, all sailors go through phsychological testing during Sub School to find out if they will be okay on the sub.  If they fail any of the tests they are not allowed to continue in Sub School. I don't know what happens after that since I have not been in that situation. I am sure someone on this website could tell you if you really need to know; but I would not worry about that unless it happens. Us moms worry about enough things without adding that to our minds.

My sailor has been in for almost 5 years now and last year re-enlisted for 6 more.  He is planning a career in the Navy and we are very excited that he loves his job.

Good luck to your son and to you.  Navy moms are a special group of women and we support each other well.  Navy dads, wives, girlfriends, aunts, etc. are great also and are just as willing to help.

Aaron's mom,  At first I got to talk to my son or got emails from him when he went to Groton.  We went to visit him about a month after he got there and he was able to go out with us for the evening, but had to be back by 10 PM.  After we got home from visiting him, we did not hear anything for a week and I started worrying and then tried calling him and emailing him and got no reply. I was a mess, imagining all sorts of things.  I even called directory assistance to get the number of the sub school there and then called his cell phone and left a message that if he didn't call or email us that he was OK that I was going to call the school the next day.  He did email me back that nothing was wrong, but he was so busy.  They have duty every 6 days and that is working above what they do during the regular hours for that day and they can not have their phone with them then and after that he just came back to his room and slept.  I asked him to please call or email us at least once a week just to let us know he is OK.  Now it is almost another week and I'm waiting for a call or for him to get in contact with us.

I will be going to the meet & greet! Looking forward to it. My SR tells me, in his letters, that theyll know by mid week, when they ship out. His BS will likely be Wed/Thurs. So i'll be there when I get "the call"!!
