Hello, Roxi!  My son left for bootcamp on Nov. 8, 2011.  He is scheduled to PIR (graduate) this coming Friday.  I know what you are going through right now.  I'm not going to tell you it's easy.  You have to use all your resources (and then some!) to support your child as they take this huge step, but you can do it.  I was unprepared for how had it was.  After all, I told myself, it was always the plan that he become an independent, productive member of the adult world.  Sure, I would miss him, but it's not like anyone died or anything.  Well, I'm here to tell you that on November 8 that's exactly what it felt like.  I cried all day.  Except for when I was sobbing!  But when I got the "I'm here" call, even though it was literally about 15 seconds long, I felt better.  Already he sounded more focused and determined than I had heard him sound before.  It will get easier for you too.  I promise.  And you can come here to talk and cry so your sailor-to-be gets to see the upbeat, supportive mom!  Good luck!
