OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Please note! Changes to this guide happened in October 2017. There are now tickets issued, and there are no longer parking passes for PIR.

Please see changes to attending PIR in the PAGES column. The PAGES are located under the member icons on the right side.

Since you have a Sailor, you can change "At Boot Camp now" above to “Enlisted.”

If you get an error message, then look at the area/s in the error message and unclick all of the choices in the area/s and make choices closer to the question/s. Some choices may have changed since you joined.

It depends on what Phase they are. Mine is Phase 3 so he can stay overnight and we can sign him out. He can bring friends for the day as long as they are at least Phase 2.

Nice.  My son called only for getting some information about my family. I wish he can call me and just tell me how he is doing......   I can imagine my son didn’t spend the allowance and put it in saving account.  LOL.

Hi, my son’s PIR is also 11/1.  I haven’t heard anything from him besides the form letter.  Have you got any from your son yet?

I am wondering how my son is doing.  This site is very helpful but also I am wondering about my son whenever I see someone’s comments saying “ my son failed test” etc.  I wish I can call him and talk to him......   I just keep writing letters to him....

We can see them in 4 1/2 weeks!   I cannot wait.

Join AECF - FCs and ETs; your recruit will discover his rating while in BC, usually near the end of BC. "A" School is in GL, so you will also want to join GL A-school momsYou can also check out the Training Support Center (TSC) Great Lakes Facebook Page.

The Rating Information Card for AECF can be found at https://www.cool.navy.mil/usn/enlisted/rating_info_cards/aecf.pdf(It has an error in the number of weeks for ATT; it should be 9 weeks instead of 11 for FC and 11 weeks rather than 119 weeks for ET.) The Rating Information Card for Electronics Technician (ET) can be found at https://www.cool.navy.mil/usn/enlisted/rating_info_cards/et.pdf and the one for Fire Controlman (FC) can be found at https://www.cool.navy.mil/usn/enlisted/rating_info_cards/fc.pdf(If you get the security warning, it is safe to go there.) https://www.thebalancecareers.com/advanced-electronics-computer-field-3345772 has more info for you on AECF; https://www.thebalancecareers.com/electronics-technician-3345811 has info on ET; and https://www.thebalancecareers.com/fire-controlman-3355020 has info on FC.

You will be able to enjoy extra time with your Sailor following PIR. Plan to leave late Sunday or on Monday if you are able to do that. (See PIR Day and Liberty during PIR Weekend.)

TRAINING SUPPORT CENTER GREAT LAKES STUDENT HANDBOOK has some info for you. It was revised 15 April 2019.

Welcome to NAVYforMoms.com!

We ask that our members not use a last name or email address in their Username - even if it differs from their Sailor's - so please head to “Settings” on the main page right away to set your new Username (be creative!) and add a profile image (no last names visible) to complete your Profile. Then - and this is important! - read these Community Guidelines and this Operations Security (OPSEC) Checklist, for the safety and privacy of all our Sailors.

Then jump right in!  Browse around the site and check out the groups and the information in their Discussion Forums.

Join this group for boot camp moms, where you'll also find a group for your Pass in Review (graduation) date; and this one for PIR Reference Information.

Get a head start during boot camp by joining groups for, and learning about, your Sailor's occupational specialty and "A" School; and later your Sailor's duty station and/or Navy ship and homeport. You can also join groups for your own state, region or home town and interests from getting ready for deployment to care package ideas.

Please say Hi when you join a group, and feel free to ask any and all questions - everyone was new once, and there is no "dumb" question.

This site was created by the U.S. Navy just for you.  We look forward to getting to know you and your Sailor.

Welcome to the NAVY family - we're so glad you're here!!
