Every mom deals with it differently

When I joined N4M (just before my son left for boot camp in Dec. 2009) I kept hearing complaints from moms who were told by friends and co-workers "Why so upset, it's just like sending them off to college."

Hmmm, I thought. I couldn't imagine being terribly upset. Yes, I sent my son off to college the year before, and I couldn't see any difference myself, and I told the moms that.

Six months later I got a message from one of the moms who was part of that conversation asking if… Continue

RP - Seabee, Greenside, or Blueside?

My Husband is in his last few weeks of basic training and just had his interview with the Chaplain to be an RP, and everything went great. His (our) problem is he has the options of going Greenside with the Marines, or Blueside staying with the Navy, or going with the Seabee's. He was told he can make a request for whichever he wants, even though there are no guarantees. He (we) need(s) to know the positives and negatives of each option in order to be able to make an educated decision. Anyone… Continue

Before they leave...

As I sit here writing this, I'm FB chatting my with my stepson, who's at his mom's. Asked him if it was okay I joined this, since I am the step mom. He said he was, "kind of touched and honored" that I wanted to. It's really started a great conversation and he knows how proud I am of him and how much I love him, even though I didn't bring him into this world. :-)

N4Dads?

I'm learning a lot, and sharing with my hubby. But I wonder, is there some sort of networking group for dads?

Update on the coming month!

Well, Andrew has his orders and he is in Great Lakes, IL for his schooling. Right now he is doing N DOC this week. He says he will class up thursday or Friday. He schooling should start soon. We are expected in San Diego, CA in August. Original orders were to report to SD no later than August 16th. But because they have him doing N DOC all this week he doesn't start his actual schooling until next week. But I'm very excited about our move. I started some packing, but Andrews brother said that… Continue

My son, Micah, has been in A-school in Pennsacola since Febuary and is finally about to leave in 4 weeks. He's been through so much this summer and is really depressed. He's had a girlfriend there and just yesterday she dumped him because he only has 4 weeks left there. I tried to reassure him that there is someone out there that is more mature and able to handle a relationship (this girl was only 17). Someone meant for him. and then last week he found out someone stole his Navy Federal debit… Continue

Videos of what are sailors are doing?

I have a friend that has a son in the ARMY, he just enlisted and has been in bootcamp for 3 months, she has been able to access a video and pictures on a web page that shows what they are doing and where they are in their trainings. She has been printing pictures of her son from these postings.

Does the NAVY offer this too? anyone know?

I'm aware they are a totally different branch/uniform but it's worth the search.

Our grandson

Our grandson finished basic training and is now in SC. We miss him, pray for him and worry a little. He has been too busy to call or write. He has a father, brother and us.

Viva la difference!

Wow, it's so different preparing to see my step son go Navy in October, rather than college in August. My son, and my other two stepsons did college. I keep feeling like we should be shopping dorm sales! Instead, I'm learning. No care packages for quite some time is another big change. Colleges encourage one by September! Oh well, we're learning new tricks! No old dogs here.

We got our first letter today!!

I was super excited to see a letter from my brother in the mail today!! It was soo nice to hear from him.. eases my mind a bit. Sounds like he's doing pretty good and is staying optimistic. He said the people in his division are a "rowdy bunch" and that he is "no angel". Oh boy! lol. He said he has a few new "buddies".. and that they've really helped him get through the first couple of weeks. That makes me feel about 200% better about things. When he left, it was really hard…

Liberty Weekend!!

Just had a fantastic liberty weekend with my boyfriend before he went off to A-School. I am so happy that he got through it and excelled. Wish he was home with us but I know it will be soon enough. I am so proud of my sailor! Today he started A-school and I am excited to be able to have more contact with him through phone and email! This should make the time go by so much faster.

SUNDAY (wife of SR in DIV 293 Ship11)

So, was hoping for a phone call from my husband today - last time we spoke when he called for some addresses they needed for his S.C. he said he thought they were getting a call home today up to an hour....its 616pm .... I have been pacing the house all day waiting to hear his voice.

I pray I do get to hear from him - if not I am almost certain we get a call home at week 3.

At least I can find comfort knowing he got all the letters I wrote so far. I havent sent many…

Phone Call!!!

Received a phone call this week from my son. He sounded great and really made me feel better about his being away. He had more positive things to say and certainly seemed to have a very mature view of his experiences. The PIR cannot come soon enough for me. Looking forward to meeting many of you that will attend the PIR on 8/20/10. I hear it should be quite a moving experience.
