PIR experience

WOW!! What a beautiful thing to behold! You can read posts and watch video after video but you have to EXPERIENCE to understand just how fabulous it is.

After driving 13 hours to Chicago we were needless to say exhausted. We had reservations at the Navy Lodge and just on a hunch inquired see when we could check in ( it was about 0730) they were nice enough to find us a room so we could rest awhile. We then rode around and explored the area. We must have drove past the front gate like 20… Continue

Honor Flight

Several of you have asked how to get involved with Honor Flight, the program that makes it possible for WW II veterans to see THEIR memorial in Washington, DC, for free. It's a one day trip, flying out early in the morning and coming back that night. My husband and I will be "guardians" on the first flight out of Moline next Saturday. I am so fortunate to have my 86 year old dad going. You can be a guardian, too! Go to the national website and find a hub near you. If there isn't one, sign up… Continue

More Tiger Answers

Hi all,

I had hoped to refer you the Lincoln website and the Tiger link, but it is gone. Here are a few basics:

who can't go: spouses, boy/girlfriends, significate others-Navy doesn't want relations on the ship. It is still a fully functionable ship and the sailors have a job to do.

Who can go: parents, step parents, grandparents, siblings, friends, extended family. It is based on available spots, and health. First come, first served, then health issues are the deciding… Continue

Tiger Cruise explained

Hi all,

I've gotten many comments and I appreciate that. My husband went to Virginia Beach today to see our son, so I have been busy getting him ready for his trip.

A tiger cruise is when the Navy allows civilans to ride the aircraft carrier from Hawaii to San Diego or Everett, Washington. I would imagine that the Atlantic fleet does the same. You live where the sailors live, in other words, there aren't guest quarters. And yes, I did ask my son that question. He laughed pretty… Continue

Tiger Cruise

Hi all,

I am new to this site. It is inspiring to read about other boys and girls (really young men and women). My husband and I have just returned from the Tiger Cruise aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln. We flew to Hawaii on 10-1 and set sail for San Diego on 10-3. What an adventure and I would encourage anyone else to take it if they can! It was an experience of a lifetime. We lived as the sailors do and boy, it is hard work!

I wrote a daily blog for my local news station and you can… Continue
