New Prayer Request for Yvonne!!

Prayer request for Yvonne!

After 8 months of what we hoped was recovery and healing...and God has done some awesome things! We thank Him for everything that He has blessed us with in her recovery so far. Last Saturday was the last day we walked around part of the lake near our house. Sunday evening at home she was walking around the house, I was behind her, and all of a sudden, her legs just gave out under her. She was able to get herself back up again. But that…

Prayer for Yvonne's Feet and Legs

For those of you who have been praying for Yvonne and me through Yvonne's surgery and recovery, please pray for us. Tonight we really feel the need for prayer. Yvonne has been walking a lot and I've been posting about it with a lot of excitement. But today she was noticing that her right foot seemed to scrape when she took a step. She tries really hard to walk heel to toe like normal, but it bothered her the way her foot was acting. We also noticed that she is having trouble…

Appointment with Yvonne's surgeon in the morning

I have a prayer request for those of you who have been praying for Yvonne and me. Tomorrow we go see Yvonne's surgeon (perhaps for the last time). This recovery has been very hard and the longer it goes the harder it seems to be. Not just physically, but emotionally and mentally as well. Tonight Yvonne and I are praying that Dr. Shuff will be able to give us some good news. To give us some hope moving forward. We really need some encouragement from him, if at all possible. Please pray…

Yvonne walking over 1/3 of a mile!

Yvonne is still fighting with pain; however, she is getting stronger and stronger every day! She is up to walking over 1/3 of a mile each day. We are doing the walking every morning at the lake near our house. We measured off the distance beginning with 1/4 of a mile and then increased the distance every few days. She was really surprised when I told her that 1/3 of a mile is the distance completely around the block by our house! It is way more pretty and fun to walk around…

Driving for the first time since her surgery!

Yvonne had another good week. She walks about a quarter of a mile now, and this week she did it five days in a row. But, here is more exciting news, today after church we went to an empty parking lot and she got behind the wheel of our car for the first time. Everything worked fine and she drove us home! She enjoyed being able to drive again. Praise the Lord for another first! God is restoring her to health and healing her wounds. Thank you Jesus! Unfortunately, she still experiences…

Compression fracture in Yvonne's vertebrae

Please keep Yvonne in your prayers. When we saw the surgeon on the 6th of July he showed us the x-rays and said Yvonne has a compression fracture of one of her vertebrae. He said there is nothing that can be done except wait for it to heal. And it looked like it was already doing that. But, she is having quite a bit of extra pain in her back the last few days. She couldn't even finish her physical therapy session on Thursday because her back hurt. So if you could, please pray for her.…

Military Ministry this month!

This was an awesome weekend! For the first time in 5 months we were involved in military ministry again in our home. Andrew, one of our spiritual sons is here for 23 days doing his reserve duty. What great fun it was to catch up, reminisce, eat together, and pray together! Last night we ate pizza, and brownies and played Golf (one of our favorite card games). Then today we ate Mission BBQ. I didn't want to task Yvonne with having to cook for our weekend activities yet. Then we ate…

Outpatient Physical Therapy for Yvonne

Today Yvonne started outpatient physical therapy. They are working on stretches for her legs and back. Please pray that they will be able to help her get to the point where she will be able to walk as she puts it, without the walker. We still need your prayers! This ahs been a long journey and it seems to be far from over! Thank you all for your support over the past four months!

Yvonne begins to walk unassisted!

Additional report: This morning Yvonne stood up by the side of our bed (she's done that a few times before) without using her walker or support from me. Then she took a few halting steps forward. Then she stood still and took a few more steps. Ultimately, she took ten steps forward and then took ten steps backward! But the really good news is that she did it a second time, and a third time! Praise God! She is on the road to a full recovery! God is so good!

God is restoring Yvonne to health and healing her wounds!

I want to thank all of you for your tremendous prayer support through the last three months! Yvonne is getting stronger and stronger. God is indeed restoring her to health and healing her wounds! April 30th will end her home health care with PT and OT. Our next visit with the surgeon is on the 27th of the month. We will request he then authorize outpatient physical therapy. Today we went to Sam's Club together; but this time she got in one of those little electric scooters and drove…

Yvonne - More standing and activity with walker!

The Occupational Therapist came again today and took Yvonne upstairs again. This time into our bedroom and had her get into bed. She's very encouraging and says Yvonne should be able to sleep upstairs soon. Working toward that!! The other day she had Yvonne standing by the washing machine doing laundry. More and more PT and OT is focused on getting her out of the wheelchair and standing with the walker. Praise the Lord! Starting yesterday she wears a bone growth stimulator 2 hours a…

Yvonne got sick last night - hard night

God is good! I am so thankful for what He has been doing in Yvonne's recovery. Unfortunately, last night Yvonne was really sick! I mean throwing up sick. It was a hard night. I slept downstairs on a makeshift mat to be there for her fast if needed. She is resting comfortably today. She's totally wiped out but feeling better! We do appreciate all of your prayers and ask you to continue praying for us. Thanks!

Occupational Therapist takes Yvonne Upstairs for the First time!

Wow! What a day today was! The Nurse came today at 8:00 to change Yvonne's bandage. 10:00 was the Home Health Aid came for a bath. In between I put the Tub transfer bench together. Then 11:00 the Occupational Therapist came and put Yvonne through the wringer! She transferred her for the first time to the stair lift. So Yvonne went upstairs. They practiced going from the stair lift, to the walker, and then to the transfer bench in the tub (pictures included). Then she rode the stair…

Significant progress in Yvonne's therapy and recovery.

I am amazed at what the Sentara Physical Therapists and Occupational Therapists have accomplished with Yvonne in just two weeks. Today the Occupational Therapist was here and had Yvonne transitioning from bed to wheelchair to commode and back using her walker. It was significant progress again today. Thank you Jesus! I can't say it enough, God is answering our prayers abundantly! Afterwards we went out and sat on the patio for a while. Tomorrow we go and see Dr. Shuff the surgeon for…

Yvonne doing standing exercises with Physical Therapist

Wanted to post an update on Yvonne's recovery before I head upstairs to bed for the night. Today was another very good day for her! The Lord continues to bless. I know He is hearing and answering your prayers. Thank you so much for your faithful support!!! Yvonne was relatively pain free today. The Physical Therapist came and had her do several standing exercises. The therapist was very pleasantly surprised at what she was able to do! The Sentara Home Health Care therapists are MUCH…

Great day for Yvonne today!

Today was a GREAT day! Yvonne's pain seems to now be controlled well. Our AC and Heating unit quit working yesterday. We called a repair company and their technician came out two hours BEFORE our appointed time Yea! After troubleshooting our system he initially said it was our ductwork and the repair would cost us between $5000 - $8000. I begged God to have mercy on us and change that somehow. A few minutes later the technician said he was wrong, and that the problem was a bad switch…

Sitting in the sun was a treat for Yvonne today!

It looks like we've got the leg seizing under control now with a second dose of Gabapentin at night. Her feet and legs are swollen and causing her some concern. Tonight we put the compression stockings she brought home from the hospital on her legs to try to help that. The weather was so beautiful that I took Yvonne out onto the patio in the back where she sat in the sun in her wheelchair for a couple of hours. She really enjoyed that! I cleaned up the flower beds around the patio. We…

Yvonne is Home But Still Has a Long Way to Go!

I know it's been several days since I posted an update on Yvonne. Sorry. She has been home from the rehab center for a week tomorrow. It's great having her home! Sarah and Jacob have been staying here with us too. They have really helped Yvonne's spirit and blessed her heart! Yvonne is up and active quite a lot each day. However with that there is a price to pay. She has been experiencing increased pain at times. Especially at night when her back and legs "seize up". We called the…
