Hello Lori. I just got your comment that you left on my page dated 9/8. I am finding that the Navy for moms site does not always notify my email when people post stuff to me. Sorry have taken so long to reply.
Brenden moved to the Cole last week. I think it was Wednesday . He said that he wanted to move to the Franklin but so far is ok with the Cole. His room mates seem to be like him. They like computer games. When I call my son I can hear his room mates playing them. LOL. My son likes peace and quite but I think he has adjusted just fine. He seems to enjoy their company. I am happy that he loves the Navy so far. He is really having fun and enjoying life.

Hello Lori. I spoke with my son yesterday and he is still waiting to be moved into his permanent Barracks. He has a new room mate as the other one moved to his permanent Barracks last week. His new room mate is still a little shaky because he is fresh from boot camp.LOL.

Brenden told me that he thinks he will be moved today because 80 new sailors just graduated from BC and they have to make room for them. He said that he hopes that they will move him to the Franklin.

Talk to ya soon

The baby in the picture is uncle Sam with his adoring nephew who will miss him a lot.

Sam was a DEP with the honor of being recruit chief petty officer over the recruits. He is older than most going in, 24. He did his sowing of oats before going in. It seems this plan worked because now he is very serious about this chapter in his life.

I haven't started writing letters yet except thoughts in my mind as I go about my daily business. He's always in my thoughts. the dumbest things make me cry and miss him already. He is going to be a sonar tech with schooling in San Diego. They tried to get him to be in nuclear propulsion but he wanted the ST. He is very interested in broadcasting and has been for a long time. This classifies as communications. He has a very deep voice and has been told he sounds like a broadcaster. Your slide show is great. don't know how to do that kind of thing. Write again soon.

Hmm. That's cool about the people American flag. Brandon was on watch this weekend so couldn't leave the Corpsmen side of the base. I did just get off of the phone with him and he said today they did a taping of something for the Army/Navy football game for next year with the flag, said they got to do the "wave" and yell "go Navy" said it was kind of fun but he really would have rather been in class learning something. "who is this kid"? . Hope you had a great weekend. We did...

It's so weird how each "department of the Navy" is different and be at the same location. Where Brandon is at the Hospital side of Great Lakes, he says it's very laid back. Up until yesterday I had talked to him everyday and sometimes 2 or 3 times a day. He actually started school on Tuesday. My dad was traveling through Chicago yesterday so got to spend a few hours with him last night and he's on duty this weekend so I'm not sure how much I'll hear from him. He does text me every morning about 5:30 to tell me to have a good day and he loves me. I know what you mean about not wanting to bother them, so I don't call, I just text. I do know that during the week Brandon has liberty from 4-9:45 and he can go anywhere on base and talk on his phone anytime other than during the day and accept for when he's on duty he's completely free on the weekends and can go off base. Hopefully Paul's schedule will normalize here before too long. Well, I'm off to the river for the weekend fly fishing with my husband. Talk to you soon.

Hey Lori, just wanted to see how your weekend went. Hope it was awesome.
At 7:51pm on May 24, 2010, grumsmom said…
My biggest suggestion would be to enjoy every minute. If you are planning on going into Chicago, I highly recommend the Metrarail. The station is directly across the street from the Hospital entrance on the base (my son is in A school right there) so it's going to be very convenient for him. It takes you to the main train hub (Ogilve) and from there were took a city bus (#124 to Navy Pier). It's $7 for the whole weekend. The city buses are $2.25 and they don't give change. The taxi's they are like voltures. My son didn't want to do anything but spend time with us so we just went into the city and walked around Navy Pier and Magnificent Mile (they are within walking distance of each other). The toll way Interstate 94 is .50 so you need to have exact change for that too.
I can't even tell you how great it was, just when you think the PIR ceremony is dragging on too long, they do something that just jerks your heart and makes you cry. Our boys are awesome (as I'm sure you already know). Hope this helps. Congratulations to your son as well. Has he been to Battlestation yet??

Hey Lori, we just got back from PIR what an amazing weekend. We stayed at the Red Carpet Inn so I thought I'd let you know how it was. Like you said before it's not the Ritz but it's close to base. I won't say it was good but it was fine. The rooms were clean, beds were comfortable, it's a little run down but we didn't have any problems. If you are taking the shuttle be sure to put your room # on a list when you check in for a specific time and double check the time. My son's girlfriend put us down for 6:30 when she checked in but they actually wrote it down for 6:50. We were still there in plenty of time and got good seats. I hope you have an amazing weekend like we did with our son.
Go Navy!!

Hi Lori, wanted to welcome you to the AECF group! I see you are counting down the days until you officially have a sailor in the house. Such a proud moment! Congrats in advance. Have they told him if he will be an Et or FC yet? Our son is an FC and my hubby was as well so I know more about that rate but both are great jobs with lots of schooling on the front end. The group is active and supportive...stop by often.
