Hi Kathleen.  My son is at A school in Great Lakes.  He is undesignated for now. He finishes there on the 17th of Oct and then on to Pearl Harbor.  He just called the other night and told us once he gets there he is being transported (somehow) to a port (somewhere) where he will be on a ship for 7 months.  I asked him if he was excited or scared, and he said 'a little scared, I think'.  I told him that's because it's the unknown and to know in your heart, this is what you have been training for.  Hopefully, he will come to terms with it and become excited.  He has always been my kid (I have four and he is the second oldest, at 23) that has not been good with change.

Finally have someone from NJ!!!!  Talked to Joe last night and he said how excited he was to be going to the beach on Saturday!!  Seeing him on 9-7 graduation he was so pale!  Always being inside and if outside, covered up and his hat.  So hope he will enjoy his time on Saturday!

My oldest son is 22 and then I have 2 younger children, Bradley who is 10 and Ashley who is 5. They miss him so much. Ashley keeps asking when he is coming home and the worst part of that question is, I don't have an answer for her. :(  Did you grow up in Haddon Heights? I graduated from High School there. In fact Matthew's girlfriend lives in Haddon Heights.

I'm so sorry, my name is Joyce. My sons name is Matthew and he is ship 14 div 289. His A school is in Connecticut. He is going to be on a nuclear sub. I feel the exact same as you. I honestly have been so sad and feel like no one in my family understands, especially my husband. I feel so alone in this. I have only met 2 other moms that are on my sons ship and division. I am trying to find out as much as possible because my son's recruiter was not honest in everything that was told to us I am finding out. I booked 2 rooms at the Marriott Courtyard. I heard that was really nice. Where are you staying? I booked it for 2 nights but not sure when my son is leaving for A school. Apparently you don't find out until you get there!  I think that is so crazy.

Kathleen, I completely understand how you feel. These past 2 weeks have been so hard. I don't think I have ever cried so much. I knew this is what he wanted to do also but I still wasn't prepared to feel so sad. My son only did one semester of college before saying that was enough and signed up for the Navy! He has been in DEP since last December. Thought that would be enough time to change his mind but he didn't. It does help to talk to other moms that are going through the same thing. Do you know what A school he will be going to after?

Hello Kathleen, Happy to know that there are more people out there with a son/daughter in the same ship/division as my son. I have not seen very many people on here who have anyone in the same ship/division. It will be great to get to know everyone as the weeks go by.
