Hi Gulf Coast Mom. Thank you for the friend request. Has your son been in Kings Bay since Prototype, and how does he like it? Did he do Prototype in Balston Spa?
Nice to meet you. My Son is currently in BC. He is probably finishing up his "p" days. Hard not hearing from him.
I am currently a RN working perdiem in local hospital. I am also finally finishing up my BSN. I am going to also complete my school nurse certification. Probably going to look towards middle school or high school. How do you like it compared to Hospital nursing?
What rating is your son? How has the Navy been to him?
I enjoyed Camp Nursing. If you are a Middle School nurse, you will be very comfortable with this job. It ranges from homesick kids to anaphylactic shock...you never know what the day will bring. It's very rewarding, but not in a monetary sense. I did it for many summers when my kids were at camp also.
Our granddaughter just arrived at Gulfport. She doesn't start school for about 2 weeks, then I think it will be another couple weeks before she can leave the base. Can you get onto the base?
Hi, we are on the Memphis too. I saw your post from March 7th. I understand you are looking for the Ombudsmans info, Her email is memphisombudsman@yahoo.com and she can help you. Also the page you may have left comments on may be inactive, there is a new private blog for the families which she can give you information on, it is very recent and every question is responded to. Also, just a reminder to please do not discuss schedule info on any board, you never know who may be trolling:) . Hope all is well!
I don't know if Andy has a ship name yet, as they are on hold now for about 3 more weeks. So, he is back to "swabbing floors matey." Also, he is living in a hotel--I guess the Navy save a bunch of rooms for those who don't have room on base. He said it is difficult finding the differnt buildings right now. He's also disappointed in the mall in the area--he got spoiled in S. Carolina! lol
My hubby and I also work school shifts which determines our travel plans.
Hi. Our son just arrived at Groton last night (from Goose Creek.) What kind of restaurants are around there so we can send him some gift cards? Also, what have you learned about their housing? I thought our son said they stayed in a hotel for 3 months, which sounds different. Thanks!
Jane - So good to hear from you. Jeremy graduated prototype 12/4/09. It is evidently not a big ceremony. We did not go - he said their instructors had already given them their certificates so they just picked up their final orders and left. He and one of his roommates came home last Friday after graduation, stayed Friday night, left Saturday and drove to Houston and flew to Belize for a week with two other friends from Goose Creek. He got back to Houston last night and back here this morning early. Now - he is here until probably Jan, 5. He has to be in Groton CT on January 10 assigned to the USS Memphis a fast attack sub. It is one of the older ones and just got back in port on Nov.21 after 7 months out. Dont's have any idea when he will go going out again. I am sure he (and us) have a lot to learn. He is just glad to be done with school and moving on to using what he has learned. Where is Corbin living - Good luck to you. Let me hear back from you.
Well, come on over then! Indeed, our little group of "Westies" has fun together. We're about 8 strong right now and would love to have you join us (your sister too)! We meet on third Mondays -- our dinners are always posted on the Events calendar in the right-hand column. Looking forward to meeting you! Hugs, k.
Hi, GC! Well, your adventure is just about to begin. It will be a bummer that son is stationed so far away, but will give you an excuse to visit New England in the autumn!
Be sure to join "Sub Moms;" we a nice bunch and all know the challenges of having a kid underwater. Hugs! k.
Hi Melody-
I'm hearing power school grad date of June 5th. How about you? I think we've met one of his possible roomies for when the go off base for prototype. We plan to go to his power school grad and bring kitchen stuff for him. Been on craigslist, and think we'll have him buy sofa and bed from there.

Oh, sorry to hear Jeremy was sick. At least he got to be mothered. I,too, planned to get back over, but we spent all Friday site seeing till we couldn't go any longer. Had planned the James Park drive through for the lights, but hit the hay as we had an early flight the next morning. Also went to Indianapolis to check back in on my mom, then drove back home.
Ah, but to hug another N4M! It was great.
To our next reunion, where ever it may be!
