Good Morning! I am very excited about his decision!! It will be so good for him!

I am not sure what you mean by rate.

I am loving all the info on this site but a little overwhelmed also.

Where is your son right now?

We went to Kim's pir last weekend. She is now going to A school for ETs. I think that it starts in 2 weeks if I understood.

Mary,

Thank you so much for the welcome and the information. I am getting better at navigating the site and am thrilled to have found this board. It could be a full time job navigating in here. I was wondering about what C school was and when it took place...glad you have mind reading abilities. Since my son has neither his laptop nor a cell phone yet, I haven't learned anything since dropping him off last Sun night before heading home. At least he knows how to deal with copious amounts of snow. Just saw a sailor on the Green Bay on the morning news and wierdly beamed with pride, life has shifted once again whether or not I'm ready.

Thanks, just waiting for the After Battle stations call at the moment.

Storm in Chicago may have delayed things..l

Hi Mary! I was an AW1 and was picked up for the Seaman to Admiral program and am now an Ensign Naval Flight Officer. My brother will be going to AV "a" school and select AT or AE. My best to your husband and son.

Oh I hope so, she is my youngest of two and she and I were always together. That's really good to hear. I am so grateful for you and this website. I would be sitting here literally going out of my mind..lol  Thank you.

I'm here in California, I hope the weather isn't too bad during her graduation..3/18/11. Have they ever cancelled a graduation due to weather?

Hi, thanks for responding. I am really hoping I get some time with her after graduation.  I guess phone calls and skype are gonna be better than nothing. Wow, I only have two weeks without hearing anything and I am going crazy. I am having good days though, just knowing the importance of her new life is what keeps me going. I know I will hear her voice soon. Just didn't realize HOW HARD it was gonna be.  I thank you for taking the time to inform me of what I must.  Take care and talk to you soon.

Hi, thanks a lot for the info. She figured about the length of A school, she wasn't sure where.  Do they have any chance of coming home for a couple of days while in A school? I'm already panicking...besides graduation I need to see her..We all do here in California.

That must be so beautiful, your son in Hawaii.  That's Great..

Next time you hear from your son, ask him what rate he is going into or perhaps you already know that.  It sounds like he could be going into AECF, which is Advanced Electronics Computer Field and that is the group for ETs which are Electronic Techs and FCs which are FireControl (not fireman).  If he is in that group, you will want to join us at :  http://www.navyformoms.com/group/fcsfirecontrol

Hi Mary Thank you for befriending me. Not sure exactly what you mean about what rate he is going into? I do know that he's going to school to be a hull tech. Is that what you mean by rate? LOL I'm so happy I found this site....there has been very little communication with my son so far so this site helps tremendously with what I've been wondering about these past weeks Thanks again

Hi Mary thanks for your welcoming response. Four more weeks till PIR (2-18-11). Then we will be able to communicate with him a little more. Looking forward to going to Chicago for his graduation. He is so looking forward to this training A and C school. He just finished a two year tech school last summer in electronics. He was leaning towards ET when he left but also liked the sounds of FC but I don't think he really cares one way or another. Back when I was on active duty I was stationed at Hickam AFB, Hi from 88-90 and my son was born there. I would bet your son is have a great time there sure can't beat the weather as I'm saying that it's about 5 degrees here in northwestern Pa.

 Thanks for your response. Berk

Thanks for the warm welcome! It will be nice to get to know a seasoned Navy Mom!!!  I can't imagine how proud you and your hubby must be! We are so proud of our grandson right now, just after graduating boot camp. It's such an experience to watch how quickly our boys turn into men! Keep in touch!

Hi Mary, thanks for friending me. Kim was told that she would be an ET when she was visiting MEPS(?). I am hoping that some day she will move into cryptology, because she had had a dream of going to Japan to teach English and then come to america to teach Japanese. She got 100% on the Language test. Kim's father was an ET when he was in the Navy(before I met him). I am so new at this that I do not even know what I should be asking about.

Hey Mary! Thanks for the comment. Yeah my Hubby is in A school, should be finishing in a few weeks now but we'll still be in Great Lakes for a while. Orders are pretty backed up from what i'm hearing. and YES, our baby girl is due May 16th =)

Thank you so much for your encouragement. This is such an adjustment for all of us. Of course as a parent I want to send him all of the encouragement I possibly can but I realize now that I have to let go and allow them to build a sailor...

Congratulations on becoming a grandmother! I hope mother and baby are doing well. My best to you and your family. Safe travels!

Thanks Mary,

Who decide which rate. Does my daughter or the Navy? She would love to travle and be stationed somewhere  I think. She wants to see the world. Do the rates transfer to civilian life?

Thank you Mary for the information and words of encouragement. We have received 3 letters plus the form letter so far. Unfortunately he is not receiving our letters, only 3 out of about 20 mailed so far. Broke my heart when he asked me to write in his last letter. We still haven't received a call...makes for a stressful time. He seems to be doing great even after having to get the cold pack! We are so proud of him and look forward to PIR. He is so happy about AECF and thank you for the schooling info. Great to hear you are also in Ga...we could see some "Chicago" weather here this weekend! Appreciate your reaching out to me to help smooth the rough spots!!!

Thank you so much for reaching out. Yes that is my daughter in the pic. I miss her so much, but I know she is doing good.  I'm not sure if she is going to be an ET or a FC. When do they decide which one they will take?
