Morning Molly - It is so incredible! Nick was not interested in going to the city yesterday but our normally quiet son spent hours yesterday just talking about his game plan, his 401k, saving money, promotional opportunities, etc. then he and Steve spent hours talking twidgett stuff! They got on the computer and looked up steve's old ships and looks at the different systems that he worked on and what Nick will be training on. Very cool bonding time for the boys - Steve is just so proud! Nick did want a steak last night so we went over to Outback but he said it was TOO much food as he is used to portion control...geez I need to join the Navy!!! I woke up at 2 am and he was still up and on the phone with his girlfriend who is in school in Philly - don't know how many hours they talked but he is sleeping in this morning...it is all good!
We will be flying out about 4pm on Sunday so he will be going back to the base early afternoon but needs to stop and buy some BLEACH as he has to do his laundry!! Love it - the Navy is teaching him everything that I didn't!!! Catch up with you when we return.

oh Molly, I cannot thank you enough for all of your support - truly! Do you know we are trying to do a live feed from the restaurant tomorrow night so you guys CAN be with us!!! Look for a new posting from Catherine tonight - we tested it today and it's pretty cool if it works! Only 2 of us going, our daughter is 4 hours away at college and she has her "formal" on Friday night and going into finals so she really could not lose a few days of school. We have the cameras, binoculars, kleenex, I love my sailor buttons, video camera...just no clothes packed yet! Already printed our board passes, we leave at 3:40 and land at 4:45 but there is an hour time difference.. We are totally prepared to give him some space as when Steve would go out to sea for months at a time - he had to regroup before he was human again too. Oh we are staying at the Homewood Suites so Nick will have alittle more space and it has an indoor pool...not that I'm getting in a bathing suit!!! It is all going to be fabulous and wish you were there but hopefully the live feed will work and you will think you are!!!

Be sure to buy a division tee shirt day of graduation. The tables are set up on the floor of the hall. They sell til about 8:30 am. It will be your sailor's division on the Tee. Some of the guys will have helped in the design. Our teenage son wanted a shirt of his Big Bro's division! Take cash...they also sell hooded sweatshirts, etc with the design. Water for sale too. Take ID, everybody must have it. Big purses ok, with food or water, but they may check thru it first. Bring a seat cushion (I sat on my coat). Binocs...a must! Before you know it...LIberty call, and you'll be with your son!
It was wonderful! The smile on their faces is so worth it! Long lines getting out of parking lot, but you'll be with your sailor in the car! We bought our son an hour massage at a salon at the mall. He so wanted that! He took two naps at the hotel, called all his friends and family, and posted emails. We visited Fort Sheridan, just south of the base and got some fantastic pictures of wild and massive Lake Michigan. There are walking trails there along the shore. Also, we drove north to Wisconsin for some Cheese!
He enjoyed just not having to THINK!! and being able to relax! Take some clothes for him to lounge in at the hotel room. Sweats, socks, tee-shirt, slippers? HE loved getting into his old clothes again. But he must be in uniform all other times. Can't walk with a cell phone visible either.
Happy Times!

Hi Mary!
Sorry I dropped the ball on my end....Matthew's doing great. Talked to him on Saturday. He can't wait for PIR...and Battle Stations this Thursday!
My hubby has been in and out of the hospital 3 times in the last 3 weeks. Still no diagnosis. Just a little bit of stress here... We cancelled hubby's GL trip, and shortened mine. I'll return right after PIR. I apoligize for not being of any help and hope I get to see you all at the dinner.

Oh, the rumors that fly aroud this site! The latest one is the Chief and/or RDCs maybe joining us for dinner on April 24th at the Full Moon cafe! I think it would be wonderful, the more the merrier especially having the men that have been training our sons for the past two months. I would send them an invitation myself if I had their names. If we get to talk to Nick before leaving for PIR, I will be telling him that dinner is at 7pm that night and to please let his leadership know...they are ALL invited!!!

Yeap, Shawn is a REAL southern boy, some have referred to him as a 'redneck" loves fishing -hunting -4 wheeling, all the outdoors things, The cold was a REAL shock but from his letters he said they were sooo bundled up that they didn't feel it too much, but his hands were always cold. When we went for PIR there was a nasty snow storm and being southern people well lets just say-from car to building, we didn't enjoy the great outdoors... Shawn in fact is fishing in Lake Michigan in his spare time now....
