My son was home and left today I am feeling like part of me is gone where do I go from here I came home to an empty room and my home feels empty without him. I can shake this emptiness with all the family around I know everyone says it’s ok. But I cannot help feeling sad.

I remember that feeling when my recruit left. She got called weeks earlier than expected. What helped me was getting letters/ cards ready even before we received her address. I mailed one just about every day after we received her address. I also asked others to write a note or make a drawing, etc. and included those in my cards. It seems like forever until her form letter arrived and that first phone call. The box arrived first and I made the mistake of opening it...cried my heart out. But time is going by...graduating less than 2 weeks away.
I found this group this month too and having answers to my questions has helped a lot.
This is a great group!

It's so hard, isn't it?! I have a whole new respect for military families after this experience. We all deal with it in our own way. You'll find your way..I'll share what I did, I tried to change my schedule to fill the time I usually had with him with something else,to help that lonely sad feeling. So I joined a gym that opened close to our home. My son told us to do fun interesting things so we could tell him about it. We tried! I worked on finding things he would be interested in reading, funny memes from his favorite shows, articles on his teams games, bought funny cards, sent pictures of our selves and our dogs, told a few of his friends his address so they could send letters. I tried to keep my letters positive and encouraging but definitely let him know he was missed. Mail is huge for them so have something ready to send when you get his address. This is hard but the joy of seeing him graduate will be so sweet! Don't forget to take care of yourself, you're in training too! (Navy mom training,..its rough;)) ❤️

This is probably one of the most sudden and shocking ways to transition from having a "kid" who lived at home with us to an "adult" who is responsible for their own life, but like all parents whose kids grow up and move on, we'll keep moving forward. The pain will fade, and you'll be so proud of the accomplished adult that your son is becoming. I think Blue Mom's suggestions to fill the empty time with activity is a great one. Allow yourself the time to feel sad sometimes, but keep going.

Thank you so much for all of the advice and to know that I am not alone going through this. I am a tough person but you keep telling yourself that you are going to get through this and he is fine and he is a good boy because to me he will always be my little boy. I have cried so much that I don’t think I have anymore tears. And I am trying my best not for him to see my sadness. I spoke with him this morning so I am going to take it one day at a time set some goals and keep my days busy and of course wait for those phone calls. Thank you Holly, Blue Mom and Carey

Hello Phoenixmom, thank you for checking in on. I was finding it hard to get out of bed and my son since he was shipped out. But now that he has settled there he calls me every day even with the time change and he tells me about his day it’s not a long conversation but just hearing him warms my heart. I am focusing on getting back to my routine because I do still have my other son and my husband and I know they need me to. I do hope that you ladies are doing well because we are all in this together and I am so thankful to have someone than understands how I feel,

Thank You
Ladies
