I know that patience is a virtue, but I've run out of it! Our son shipped out on the 30th.. I've been waiting on his form letter, and I know that that could take up to two weeks, but here's the frustrating part..

His recruiting officer is nowhere to be found. When he first enlisted, he was working with a certain recruiter. A couple of weeks before he was to ship out, his recruiter went back to another job, and he was assigned to another.

He never even met the new recruiter (since it was so close to the time that he was leaving), and on the day before he shipped out, when we went to sign the last few papers and check in, he wasn't there.

I've noticed that a lot of mom's find out their son's divisions, etc., before they even receive the form letter, and they find out from their son's recruiter.. I called the MEPS office where he shipped out from, and they were so nice, but they don't handle that side of it there. The gentleman I spoke with said he would look into it, and try and find out what he could, but I know they're extremely busy there.

I know that eventually I'll get the form letter, but it's frustrating that we don't have a recruiter that we could call, even with a minor question. It looks as though his PIR would be July 26th, but who knows??

OK, rant over..I just pray that all is ok w/ my "boy", and that the letter will come soon! (and I'd also like to make our flight and hotel reservations!)

I hope everyone is having a good Tuesday!!

Thank you!! We travel a lot, so he's an expert on booking! Me, not so much.. I've been known to pay three times what I should've for an hour long flight, lol... So, I usually book the hotels, and he handles the airfare. I'll be sure to let him know about checking the different airports, though!

We will stay until Monday morning, for sure, regardless of when I finally find out the definite date. The kids are on summer break, of course, so we don't have to worry about rushing back for school/college..

2 things we always say in the Navy - Hurry up and Wait - and Semper Gumby (always flexible).

As long as you remember these you should be ok!

I wondered what Semper Gumby meant!!! Love it, and yup, I'm beginning to see that now! I'm a "yesterday" person, so this will definitely be a learning experience for me!

I appreciate your vent and all the responses you received, as I needed those words of encouragement as well! My son left June 3rd and I'm already feeling as you are. :( I'm trying to focus on the "no news is good news", and I also realize I shouldn't be expecting a letter just yet. And I definitely agree, sending him off to college seemed so hard......until this! No comparison. I did both with the same child so I can attest! :)

Hugs to you and all the moms going through this tough time! -oxox

Erikawithak- Welcome and no you are not alone!  I know it's hard but you will get through this!  you can post both here and on the Main Boot camp page and we will try and get you through!  We haven't lost a Mom to boot camp, we aren't going to start today!! {{{{HUGS}}}

xoxoxo!!!!!

@Belovedbyhim Thank you!!

@erikawithak Our son was away from home for three years for college before he left for the Navy, so I'm used to him not actually being at home, but the not talking is SOOOO hard!! We talk/text throughout the day, everyday. So, it's hard on all of us - my husband and his siblings included.. Our family group chats are missing one, and we don't like it! LOL

Dropping at college was a BREEZE compared to this!!

Thank you for the words of encouragement. I'm really glad I found this site. I have been blessed with wonderful friends, but I am the only one of my group who has a child that has gone into the military, so it's very comforting to find people in the same boat.

xo

Oh Shoes...I feel your pain. Remember the first rule of being a Navy Mom: Semper Gumby!!! Molly's recruiter did a quick disappear when the ink was still dry on her contract. LOL In fairness, I think each person has a role to play. After the recruiter, well, recruits, others now know best what your SR is doing and has more accurate information on them. The more you call the worse it might be, so try and take a deeeeeep breath and put that energy into writing witty, positive letters to your son. The letter will come and in what feels like a minute, you'll be sitting in the stands, wondering how your boy became a Sailor. Keep calm! xox

Ha! KNEW B'sNukeMom would have it covered. :))

Shoes, I was that "gotta have action NOW" until Molly went to BC. Then it was truly hurry up and wait. Keep in mind that your boy will never be as safe as he is in BC and you will make it!! I'm so happy to be able to text and call Molly now that she's in A School. You will be there sooner than you think!

You’re absolutely right!

Hi, I am so glad to hear we all have the same feelings.  The beginning seems to be the hardest part. I learned to let go, so I thought, when my son went to college.  I was lucky to have him home for a year or so and had to re-visit those separation feelings again. So not easy! We are mothers for all time....no matter what their age is. Frustration seeps in easily, waiting for any word, I keep saying to myself "no news is good news" it gets me thru the days.  Shipped out to Boot Camp 5/30 I am waiting patiently for THE letter....in the meantime I am keeping busy not looking in my son's room.
