OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Nautical Mom don't hesitate to send me a friend request and ask me any more personal or detailed messages about Prototype Graduation. I am happy to answer what I can for you.

Also, be sure to go into your profile and change your sailor's status from waiting to leave for boot camp to enlisted!

Hi Nautical Mom,

My son made us reservations at the Sheraton Princess Kaiulani using a military rate, but that is in Waikiki. I'm not sure if there are openings at Navy Lodge on Ford Island and there is another military hotel in downtown Waikiki that is available, but those require a military ID and I'm not sure how that works unless your sailor is staying with you.  Traveling to Hawaii requires you register at TravelSafe Hawaii and upload your vaccine card and/or negative test prior to traveling.

Ubers are available and it's about $22 from base to Waikiki and there are special ubers cleared to enter the base. You can message me if you have any other questions. I sure hope you get to see him, it's a beautiful place!

You are welcome! I also posted a reply to one of your comments on the Nuke FAQ page.

Nautical Mom - I noticed you posted in Nuke A School FAQ - that is great, but if you need specific questions answered, it is best to post them on the Nuke Moms group. Also, some of the information on that group may be more up to date. It is all good information, but it can always change.

Divisions 403 and 404 are brother divisions and train together and will have Battle Stations-21 (BST) together, so look for others with loved ones in either division. Write to your recruit and ask when Battle Stations-21 (BST) will be so you will know when to expect the "I'm a Sailor!" call.

There is info on Ship 12 and more in Ship/Division--How it Works.

Join the group, DEP-Leavin' for bootcamp in August. You will meet others with loved ones leaving the same day or week who may be in the same TG and have PIR together.

Your future Sailor may want to join http://www.navydep.com to learn the ins and outs from the DEpoint of view.

Be sure to check out the discussion, Things to Do in the Last Month before Your Future Sailor Leaves for RTC

Arrival and What Happens at the RTC within Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones) will let you know what will happen and what to expect.

Be sure to join your PIR group once you get The Form Letter, which now arrives 9 to 14 business days after your recruit's arrival at RTC. Let me know when you know your recruit's ship and division. I will have more info for you.

Since your future Sailor has a contract for the Nuclear Field, join NUKE moms; you may also want to check out Nuke A School FAQ and Nuke School Charleston. You may want to check out these facebook pages: Naval Support Activity Charleston, SC and Naval Nuclear Power Training Command Facebook page.

The Rating Information Card for NF can be found at https://www.cool.navy.mil/usn/enlisted/rating_info_cards/nukepower.pdf. (If you get the security warning, it is safe to go there.)  https://www.thebalancecareers.com/navy-enlisted-rating-descriptions-nuclear-field-3345847 has some good info for you.

Your Sailor will most likely fly out to "A" School the day after PIR. Plan to leave late Saturday or on Sunday. See PIR Day and Liberty during PIR Weekend to help you know how to plan your weekend.

Your Sailor may have Prototype in Ballston Spa, NY; if so, join Moms/Dads/Families with Nukes in Ballston Spa, NYat that time. Some stay in Charleston.
