Oh my!!! Adding my hope to yours LadyBluefire!!!!

Kayaking to take the trash out after a hurricane - wow!

Comment by LadyBluefire on October 5, 2020 at 12:11pm

Oleander - having lived in FL my whole adult life when it comes to most hurricanes I am like meh....2004 was a doozy year for me....and though I did not have much damage whenever Irma came though - the river flooded and I could kayak my property for 3 months or so. If memory serves. We were under 4 ft of water so we bought kayaks and had to kayak to take out the trash, lol.

All graduations are virtual but they are not even like the old PIRs of the past. Just them marching in their NWUs outside. Division by division - a sea of masked kids you can't identify.

I was excited that my #3 was going to have something viewable (#1 and #2 happened after they stopped even taking pics in their compartments) but at the last minute his div was put in a 15 hour ROM over a COVID scare so no marching for him. I cried for 2 days. Hoping upon hope I see #4 march...

Hi JayDee - you're right, Pensacola wasn't prepared for Sally. And she wasn't very nice about it either. I don't honestly know anyone else who could say "Hurricanes are our life" - you're killin' me Smalls.

Shoosh, it's ok - let those tears fall. Then stock up on tissues for her PIR! Different tears but oh boy... seeing those doors open and watching all the new sailors march in still gives me goosebumps. I'm assuming all graduations are still virtual but trust  me, it's remarkable!!!

LadyBluefire - yes but the base handled it swiftly and everyone was safe. They were on lockdown for most of the day and the person was apprehended. I was a wreck but my daughter wasn't -- she was just hanging out with friends.

Shoosh, our girls are strong and cope very well, but then when they hear our voices, they realize how much they miss and depend on us and they give in a relax for a little bit.  When we're around they don't have to be the strong one for a minute.

Oleander, sounds like you had a busy month!  Thank goodness training is over and the new part of the adventure is beginning.

I received a joint call from both of my girls on Saturday for my birthday.  When my girls started singing to me, my sailor was quiet and hesitant.  We quickly figured out why as we started hearing more voices in the back ground, she was in her office and her whole crew joined in the song!

Hurricane Sally was kind of a surprise.  My husband is a cat adjuster so hurricanes are our life.  It's my understanding that it made a last minute turn most of Pensacola wasn't prepared.

Morning ladies!

Oleander - oh my! A bomb threat?! Goodness!

Shoosh - PIR 10/22? so div 402 or 412 I am assuming. My son is 10/22 PIR.

I have not been on here too much as nothing much going on with my daughter. Just waiting for C school this month.

Enjoying communicating with my other 2 sailors (fleet and A school) and anxiously awaiting #4 to PIR soon!

Oleander, yes I would say 3 and you are done!! Congrats on your girl finishing her training!!

Blondie and Oleander - Thank you for your kind words, hugs and positive energy. I am a reiki practitioner and I was sending her all kinds of reiki last night!! I had it together but now the tears are falling again. I wish we had a longer conversation, it was so quick. Why do some get longer phone calls than others?

Girls weekend...waiting for luggage I noticed a woman wearing a "navy mom" shirt. Of course I approached her :) I would have hugged her if this were not crazy COVID time. And then on the way back, we missed a connecting flight and the airline worker who was helping us was wearing a mask that said "proud mom of a sailor". GO NAVY

Shoosh - UGH! your post instantly transported me to a similar call with my daughter, I got a lump in my throat and tears in my eyes!!! Blondie is 100% right - you did a GREAT job holding it together and encouraging her! She's has a lot coming up in the next couple of weeks and she has to dig deep and focus, but believe me - it'll all be worth it when she calls and says I'M A SAILOR!!!!"

Hang in there mama, we're sending her hugs and lots of positive energy! (and P.S. -I'm secretly very jealous of your girls weekend! lol)

My girl has finished training in FL and is reporting to her new command this morning! What a turbulent month! -- quarantine, virtual classrooms, Hurricane Sally and lock down on the base due to a bomb threat. Yikes -- that's 3 right??? Done!

Happy October everybody : )

Shoosh

I remember those calls Oh so HARD!  You did GREAT reassuring her and staying strong yourself. Hugs to you though cause we all know how hard it is.

Good morning Ladies! I haven't been on much because I was away on a much needed girls trip, and trying to play catch up since I've been home. I received a call from my daughter yesterday and I was so happy to see the area code!! However, she was crying when I answered. She said she was ok, just missed me. But after her letter, which was so upbeat and positive, this was not the phone call I was expecting. It broke my heart. (And it was literally 3 minutes long. I am reading all these others are getting 15, 30 minute phone calls!!) My son said it is normal reaction, as she's been gone for 5+ weeks and this is her first contact with me. I get that, but it was oh so hard!!! So good to hear her voice, but so difficult to hear it like that. I kept it together and told her how strong she was and that she only has 2 1/2 weeks left (which is crazy to me).

Hope you all are well!
