Hello
We look forward to hearing about your sailors journey. How he/she likes being an MAA (MA) and which kind of job they are doing and how you are doing knowing what your sailor does for a living.
NOTE: Please help keep our sailors safe. Don't give out exact locations.Example: If he/she is in Iraq you can say Iraq but I would not say the name of the camp or a town near the camp. If they are on a ship don't give the last known location. Although some of that is public we don't in anyway want to jeopardize them.

C'smom - I'd be nervous to purchase anything until he is told he gets liberty. You can purchase airline tickets right up to departure day if seats are available. Just depends what is available through each airline. I set my son up with an account through Delta, Southwest, and American so I could shop for the best prices. His Liberty begins at 20:00 hours on 12/17

When does the two weeks start?  This may sound odd, but I've never flown or bought tickets.  Is time running short to get tickets with him not having any idea when he will get down there?  I don't feel like I can do anything when he hasn't officially been told anything.  What a time to be in limbo!

C'smom - hope they get him down there soon as it makes communication so much easier. Yes, they stop classes for 2 weeks at Christmas and are granting them liberty. He will have to perform 2 weeks of ROM once he returns. He said it will be worth it to get to be home for 8 days at Christmas and he won't mind it since he's getting paid for it lol

I didn't realize they would be able to come home for Christmas!  But we have to wait for him to get down there before we know what is going on.  He might get down there too late for us to get him tickets.  Will your son have to quarantine when he gets back?

Vintage & C'smom - Been awhile since I've been on here and have a lot of catching up to do LOL. C'smom, Hope your son gets down there soon and out of GL!! Vintage, has your son classed up yet and done his INDOC classes?

Update on my son, he is Currently in week 3 of weapons block and this is shotgun week. He seems to really be enjoying it down there and we are excited to get him home for Christmas! Helped him get his plane ticket purchased yesterday and praying nothing changes down there to keep them from liberty!!!

VintageGal, he loved the Thanksgiving dinner.  I answered more in the Oct PIR group.  Hope you are feeling better!

C'smom ~ Sorry this is late. I must've missed this :(

Thank you <3  Did your son end up enjoying his Thanksgiving meal? I hope so! My husband is recovering from covid and I've had a headache and some congestion, so it was just us four. It was nice since family dropped off food to with all the fixings since I didn't feel well enough to cook. We ended the night with episodes of Survivor and The Amazing Race.

As for leaving to MA school... My son said that they are crowded down there and that's why it took so long for him to fly out. That wasn't what I heard from other sources while he was in holding but that's what he gathered from being there.

I hope your son flies out soon!

I hope everyone had a good Thanksgiving despite everything being different this year.  Ours was pretty quiet.  Just thought I'd update you on my sailor.  We facetimed with him and my other son who is quarantined in his apartment right now.  Out sailor is still in THU awaiting orders.  He is going to do a status check tomorrow and let us know what he finds out.  He said if itnis a medical hold, itnismusually because a civilian has not sent j  some paperwork.  He said if that is the case, he just has to do a red rover to request it.  I'm not sure if I got all that terminology correct, but that is the gist.  He said usually those going to MA school don't have to wait that long.  He's been there for two weeks now, but he said there are those that have been there longer than he has.  He said those that have a legal hold usually take a long time to leave.  I can't imagine that that is his situation.  He said that he "heard that they kill it here for Thanksgiving dinner." So he's supposed to let us know later how good it was.

Have you heard from your sailors today?

VintageGal,  I know your sailor was supposed to fly out to A school.  Did he get there?  And if so, did he fly commercial or military?  My sailor said that if they go commercial, they have to quarantine again when they get there.  I'm hoping he goes military.
