Hello
We look forward to hearing about your sailors journey. How he/she likes being an MAA (MA) and which kind of job they are doing and how you are doing knowing what your sailor does for a living.
NOTE: Please help keep our sailors safe. Don't give out exact locations.Example: If he/she is in Iraq you can say Iraq but I would not say the name of the camp or a town near the camp. If they are on a ship don't give the last known location. Although some of that is public we don't in anyway want to jeopardize them.

Hello all- wondering if anyone has any info about life if stationed in Key West? Please and thank you.

Hi nursekim - my son has been in San Antonio for about 9 days now. I offered him sheets/blanket/pillow, and he said they don't need them at all. He is pretty simple though. I am heading to see him in about 1.5 weeks. He would prefer that he be in civilian clothes when we come and is hoping that he will have that by the time we go. As long as he isn't on watch, he will have liberty to see us, he said. He does know already that he will have watch and will need to stay on base from 12-12 (can't leave) at least one of the days we are there. Bottom line  - I get to see him for a little bit, and that is perfectly fine by me! I am just happy that we get to talk all the time now!!! :)

nursekim - my sone was at San Antonio A school and didn't need his own linens.  They have hotel rooms on the base for the sailors.  Is he somewhere other than at Lackland?

My sailor is headed back there in Nov. for additional training before being posted in Japan.  I just asked him about the weekends/liberty.  I believe they have it, just the ability to get places isn't easy.

Will let you know when I hear back.

Good morning MAA Moms!

My son is heading to San Antonio in less than 2 weeks. I'd like to send him a set of twin xl sheets and a blanket. Do they have to be a certain color?

I'm also looking to visit San Antonio when he's 6 weeks into school. What's the likelihood of him having liberty that weekend?

Thank you!

Nursekim - Our son flew to San Antonio 4 days after PIR. He did tell us that sailors in other rates remained at GL for 2-4 weeks. He also said that a couple sailors that had graduated a week before his group remained on board until more MA's finished PIR. His experience was all during the pandemic though so not sure how it affected things then compared to now. He also had to wait 2 weeks in San Antonio before classing up and actually begin training. I hope you get the chance to spend time with him before he ships! We weren't even allowed to attend graduation and had to watch it on youtube.

Hey all! my son is in his P week in Boot camp and will be MA. It was his 2nd choice...1st was a Seebee. His dad was a civilian K9 and he hopes to do the same.

One thing I'm itching to know is how quickly he will be sent to San Antonio after PIR. I hope we get to spend a few days with him.

LCM - Hello and welcome to the group. Usually isn't much activity here but I do try to check in every so often. My son is a MA3 and was at Lackland during the winter of 2020 and went his duty station in February of 2021. If you have any specific questions don't hesitate to ask. Things may be different because he went to boot camp and A-School during the height of the pandemic.

Hello. Just found this, as Chipmunk sent me here (thank you!). My son is at BC and will head to A school in TX for MA training. If anyone has any advice or info to offer, I am all ears. Thanks in advance!

Good evening folks.  Just found this group.  My son has been an MA, in Bahrain, Oceana and now at a location that is pretty isolated.  He has a year there and should be relocating late fall this year.  Glad to find out that there's an MA Specific group.

He went to Lackland for his A School prior to Bahrain, re-enlisted while there.  Just re-enlisted again - will have 10 yrs when this round is up.  We are hoping he gets to 20 yrs.

Have a good weekend!

Henry's Mom
