Hi, I'd like to start a group of us newbies to the Nuke schooling whos kids will be starting "a" school in October, to the best of my knowledge "A" school classes for "MM"s will be starting mid Oct. My sons PIR from BC was 09/25. He told me there are about 25 people in his class. Right now he is in indoc. Anyone else think we belong together:)

Thanks for the info BLW. I had never heard that the place was called Goose Creek b4. Obviously, I'm very excited for him to grad from BC so he can begin his schooling. I know he is also!
Hello friends, talked with my son last night and found out a few more things.
#1 he starts classes offically on the 14th but the 13th is an orientation with the teachers, etc. There are 25 people in his class (they have had their briefings and have met a few times) the class is 1001A. **to the new moms each "class/group" is assigned a number. His whole class is just MMs - that is what he picked to do while at bc.
*2 & the best - he said they are being allowed to have their leave at Christmas (about 14 days) so he plans to come home - he said GC is pretty much shutdown (not much going on & no schooling) *I would think this would pertain to everyone there. He did say if he takes the time he will be about 4 days in the hole going into the new year but expected to quickly get the time back. fyi: Regarding coming home he said they arent allowed to make flight arrangements until a week before they can leave.
Thank you Kris for the helpful info.Sounds like the class size is reasonable and not too large.I wonder if the students get a taxi or a base shuttle to the Charleston airport to go home for Christmas holidays.I will be baking up all of our favorite goodies here.Hoping the sailors will all be able to get flights home with short notice to make flight reservations to their destinations. How does your son like his accomodations at the school?
My son is in 1002A. I wanted to ask you a question pertaining to the "no flight arrangements until a week before" YIKES! I didn't know this information. So, are you waiting on the flight arrangements? This will be expensive to try to book a flight with only 1 weeks notice.
Please give me any details you may have regarding this information. Thank you!
Its my understanding there is a base bus that takes the sailors to a couple of areas off base...a walmart, a mall/restaurant area & i dont remember whats the other place it takes them to, otherwise i guess a lot of the upper classmen have cars and will offer rides too if they are going somewhere. my son said they were pretty much warned to stay away from Charleston (not very safe), apparently North Charleston is safer and "cleaner". he likes his room, its bigger than a college dorm and more storage space, he said the food is excellent, weather has been super hot and muggy, we are from Wisconsin and have had snow off and on the last couple of days so it sounds good to me.
My son PIR'd 10/09, is leaving GL tomorrow for SC. He said he starts school on the 26th. I don't know much else yet, any others leaving tomorrow?
Our sons PIR was 09OCT09 he is a MM and I believe he is on his way to SC this morning. When did you get a call with his new address?
Okay, looks like this thread is where I belong. My son started class this week at GC and he's an ET.

I was at the base over the weekend!!! There is a shuttle that will take them all over base and to the free movie theater, bowling alley, etc. They will also take them off base to the Mall. There is even a subway (eat fresh!) right on base, next to the mini-Nax. There are some larger stores nearby (Kohles, Target). It was cute, they received a free taco card for Taco Bell (as they support our troops and never want a solider to go hungry)

I probably saw some of your sons (they look so cute in their uniforms) as a bunch of them were conversing outside the mini-nax.
My son mentioned the bowling and movie theatre, think he said you could get a large popcorn and 3 sodas for a really good price. Thats nice about the Taco Johns food card they got. He was suppose to start classes yesterday so I hope to hear from him soon. I will also be anxious to hear how long it is taking to get the mail I've been sending. The ETs and MMs have different class lengths for "A" school. The MMs only have like 14 weeks. From what I've been hearing it has been super hot in SC.
Hi,

To everyone in this discussion I have started a group with the name Goose Creek A school Oct 2009, I think that will be easier to follow.
thanks
My son Aaron PIR was Oct 2. He was grad n go to GC. He told me this week that he will start A school next Monday. They finally got enough to start. He is a MM. He has his roommate and has gotten the internet in their room. He also has Skype, so I get to see him (which I like, he showed us his room). He likes it there, he said the weather right now was a little cool. I would like to be a part of this group.
Welcome Annette,

I started an actual group that should be easier to follow all the conversations that happen. Its called Goose Creek A school Oct 2009, I am going to try and get everyone who has posted to this discussion join that group. My son started classes on Tuesday and he is loving it, hes been out of college a few years. He said the instructors are very good and everyone is very helpful. Apparently there is alot of homework/studying that is required.
