Hi all!  This is a discussion I've started for the families with recruits in Ship 2, Div 952.  Of course anyone can join, but this will help those of us in this specific group get to know each other.

Welcome to Navy Moms! We jsut got our form letter yesterday, so I feel things must be moving along! Where are you from LovemyHorses? We're from Iowa- finally feeling like fall around here.
Thanks for the welcome! my daughter died and I raised my grandson. I received the "box" Monday, and cried. Got my 1st letter yesterday, and cried and got the form today.

It just hurts to see so homesick and wanting letters so bad, he said that gives him something to look forward to.

I didn't know they could only write letters on Sunday and and receive mail on Sunday. That means he has another week until he will get anything since I just received his address last night.
I was surprised that my son wrote a good letter- he's such a texter! I keep crying in waves- I'll be fine- then WHAM. We'll make it!!
My grandson's name is Brandon. I told him about the group here in a letter I sent to him. I am just hoping his next letter he sounds a little more settled in and not so homesick. I am sure once he makes some friends that will help a LOT.
I'm glad Brandon is starting to get adjusted. It's hard I'm sure for all of them. Such a huge change! But he'll make it through!
I'm so sorry to hear about your daughter, but I'm sure she is smiling down on the wonderful job you've so obviously done with your grandson.

Sounds like you've had a roller coaster week! Ask him if he knows Charlie - my son. He's pretty good at making friends and taking people under his wing.

What's your grandsons name? I can ask Charlie about him if you'd like....
I'm not sure about the only receiving letters on Sunday. From everything I've seen and read, they only have the opportunity to write home on Sunday but they do receive mail Mon-Sat.....

I'll keep checking to see if I can get you some concrete information.
Hi, All! We got our first letter yesterday and it was so reassuring. Andrew left on 9/15, we rcv'd the box on Tuesday and then his letter on Friday. But no form letter yet! This was much better as he was able to write that he was doing well and let us know everything was going as expected. But who knew that Division 900's held a bit more prestige in BC? Check out the explanations here in N4M as it describes what the additional duties hold for our sailors. In essence, it is Honor Guard with some recruits in band, rifle team, flag team, support crew and cutlass leader. We are already so proud of our recruits and this adds deeper luster to their shine. We get so much more info here than we do from the recruiter. Hope to see you all at PIR and please keep writing! This site has helped alleviate this growing pain and we are so grateful for everyone that has initiated a group or discussion.
I told Brandon about this group. I am still not sure what DIV 900 does.I know he said it was one of th best to be in. I will try to check it out some more!
My son said in the letter I got yesterday that he is a flag bearer for this division and hopes to make honor guard for graduation. I too have heard the 900 is a performance division
My son, Drew is going to be in the honor guard and sounded so proud when he told me about it. I'm glad they are giving them something to work toward and build their self esteem. I was worried Boot camp would be all about the breaking down process. Got my first real letter today besides the form one and it sounded so positive and good that I am not crying anymore, just proud and happy the experience is working to make him a better man. He is a little older than most recruits and floundered around a lot before joining, college just wasn't his thing but the Navy may just be it. Good luck to all your sons and daughters.....I know it's tougher for the younger ones. Drew's Mom
We are from Indiana. N/E corner, and it is getting quite chilly around here. Not ready for winter with all the snow and ice!
