anchormom, if he has earned the leave, it is his. Liberty never burns leave days. Your location does not change the amount of leave days you have on the books. He can save his leave for after A school.

Leave days are good for two years before they expire. If he's been deployed and denied the chance to use them, then they can be extended. This is rare. Commands want their sailors to use their leave. They might not get all 30 days at once, or exactly when they want them, but they do get the chance.

I have a question my son is not going to come home for stand down, he told me that if he stays at gl and does duty during stand down . That he will have liberty instead and not use his leave, because he can carry it over and use it before he goes on a ship, is this true? I just wanna mke sure he does not lose that leave.

Oh- so phase 2 can drive at home? He's been phase 2 for 3 months now. I thought rules may be different for leave than for liberty. He has been using his friends car at GL on the weekends.

Sandy, pretty sure a phase two can drive.

lori, it is the honor system. It especially applies to those fresh out of boot camp, or in the first liberty phase. This year there will be a couple divisions graduating and going directly on stand down leave. They are the ones who have the strictest rules because they haven't eased back into civilian life.

There is also concern about new sailors drinking and driving.

Your sailor will tell you what rules he/she was given. If they decide to do otherwise, then DO NOT post it here. M'kay?

Lori, Bren has been working on his car for about a year. It needs lots of work. When he comes back for Stand Down he is going to be working on it more. He also knows a mechanic who wants to work on it.

Nice car Sandy! Did he restore it himself?

Oh, if my son can't drive his beautiful 1967 Ford Mustang, he will be very sad.
I can't believe that the Navy would not let a Sailor in Phase 2 drive. Do you think this is the case Anti M.??

I know I have not been posting on this site in a bit but my son who attended A school in GL has graduated and is moving on to C school. He will be coming home on leave Monday for a couple of weeks and then off to C school. We are so proud of him and all of our men and women that serve in the military. I am so looking forward to Monday. :) Happy Friday and everyone have a great weekend.

Anti M- I'm just catching up here! I liked your story about your man..clone him please!
Can you explain the no driving when on liberty? If they are at home and in civvies are they told NOT to drive? I'm thinking my son is going to want to borrow my car and go visit work, friends etc. How is this rule enforced?
Comment by Anti M on November 19, 2010 at 3:13pm
My nephew came home on emergency leave when his father died. He was still in A school, in his phase one of liberty privileges. He'd only been at A school a week or two. He was not supposed to drive.

I am thinking no driving will depend on their liberty phase. They will be instructed on the rules while they are on leave. These are likely to be a little stricter if they are new sailors, as they have not yet earned their privileges.
