In Great Lakes now, with my daughter! :)  We got a parking pass (thank god, after walking miles for two days on the base!)  She looks great!  We were at her A school graduation and they even give a little something to the parents/family! :)  How sweet that they thought of us too!  We have seen lots of sites and taken a few of her sailor friends with us to Navy Pier and watched fireworks off of a boat on the lake... it's been fantastic up here and I LOVE the weather!  :)  Thanks Angie for all the help and insight for us getting here! :)

Nancy, most the time they don't have internet. They have to buy clear wire, but if he is up in Great Lakes, at the NEX, Clear Wire has a little booth set up in the front hallway of the NEX that he can go and sign up for a contract, but knowing that he will move later on, he can most likely sell it or pass the account onto another Sailor coming in to A-school when he is leaving. That is what my husband did when he was in A-school. :)

Sammy, that's a good pointer from "m3" " The Lakes At Fountain Square" you should be able to google....if not try calling Springhill Suites, here's their local phone # 847-688-9800....There should be someone there on the Front Desk that may be able to give you more info. about these apartments or more in the immediate area?  They were so very nice to us when we were there and helped us out a lot!   Praying that you find just the PERFECT place!

Thanks so much! I just went to my husbands PIR June 10th. We stayed at the hotel near the Walmart in Waukegan too! My husband and i also had a chance to go to the Gurnee Mall and drive around the area. I personally would prefer to live in Gurnee, which is where i am trying to find a place. Thanks for reminding me of the six flags area though, i completely forgot about that! I can't believe it is right in the open like it is! Hopefully we can avoid that traffic. As i am new to this whole experience, i was trying to search for houses  to rent as well. I am having trouble finding some online. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what i should be searching? All that comes up for me is apartments. Sorry all.. i know that i am full of questions but i need all the help i can get right now.. and i appreciate all of you who take the time to help me! Thanks again!

Sammy, my son is in Great Lakes for A School, we were there for his PIR, Graduation in mid March for five days.  We drove around quiet a bit, we did look at the living areas with some interest in case he would be there longer, but he has been living on the base.  The Gurnee Mall area is a very nice, newer area than Waukegan.  There were some very well kept, pretty homes near the mall!  Some very nice looking neighborhoods.  I remember seeing some apartments but don't recall the names.  We stayed in the Springhill Suites by Marriott that were in Waukegan, but over toward the Gurnee Area.  They had a NEW Wal-Mart Shopping Center just across the street from the hotel & it was very nice area.  We drove west of there to ride over to the Gurnee Mall Area to shop and eat:  they have many well know, major chain restaurants in that area.

Hope some of this helps, sorry I don't know any more!  If it were me, I would zero in on this area to search for an apt. but watch out for the Six Flags Theme Park, that's lots of traffic in the summer time, but it's closed during the winter.  That might make it difficult to get back to the base quickly...

M3  thanks, I did see the Video finally....yes, there are still others graduating in July, but my son with graduate Corpsman "A" School on June 28th.  When he started boot camp they told him that he would be going to San Antonio, Tx. for his Corpsman "A" School but they did not have it ready then, so when they started there in Great Lakes they are leaving them there until they all graduate.  I have read some moms posts  the final class grad. date, I believe it was some time in July?
