For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

I wondered if it was ok to contact the recruiter for an address. I'd just like to know if where he is...still in processing or did week one start? Living so far away, I want to make sure I can make it to graduation! You never know about weather for flying into Chicago. I'll be coming from AK and my other son from NH.

I can understand with the delays that you would wish to contact the recruiter. I actually did this myself back in 2011. Or rather the recruiter was kind enough to send me my Recruits address. Problem was...it was incorrect by being incomplete. He was really trying to help...they sometimes just don't know. I know that sounds weird but knowing how things work at RTC is not their job...recruiting is.
Some recruiters may give a generic address. Each Ship has a specific address with a specific zip code ending. Some have the same street but a different zip ending.
Your Recruiter may also give you too much info. There is extra information about your Recruit along with his address such as their Gender, the training year, compartment number Ship Number and Name (all the Ships at RTC are named for real Naval vessels and those vessels have hull numbers), building number. Those things do not need to be included in their address.

It is important that your recruits mail is addressed correctly or there will be a delay in getting it to them as they now have to "find" them in the system.
The Form Letter that you receive from your Recruit has the correct way to address their mail.
IF you decide to go the Recruiter route this is the way their address should look like:
Q. What is the proper mailing address for a recruit?
A. The proper format for recruit mailing addresses is:SR LAST NAME, FIRST NAME, MI
SHIP XXX DIV XXX
RECRUIT TRAINING COMMAND
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
GREAT LAKES IL 60088-XXXX(taken from RTC FAQ page)
An EXAMPLE (mine) would be (this is Ship 2):
SR SMITH, JOHN, H
SHIP 002 DIV 000
RECRUIT TRAINING COMMAND
3600 Ohio Street
GREAT LAKES IL 60088-3156The Ship/Div is very important and the XXX'x are for those numbers. The long row of X's is for the Street or Drive that their Ship is located. Also, there are extensions for their Zip. You also may not need to add the Recruit Training Command line...if your recruit does it on the Form Letter then add it. You don't have to write in caps...but I recommend it for accuracy. Your recruits will put a line through their zero's (to differentiate them from a capital "O") and seven's (to differentiate them from the number "1"). You don't have to do this either...but what the heck, it's kinda fun!

There is also the problem with the recruiter may now have the initial address, but not any changes if they occur. When they arrive they are assigned a ship and division, and the recruiter generally has that information. Like FTLW said that information can also be incomplete. Now with the new PFA requirement their division can change if they need to test again. The recruiter may or may not have the new information.

I know you are missing your SR but please DO NOT contact the recruiter. Your SR will not get letters any faster since they have to train a Mail Petty Officer, in addition to all the reasons listed already. Addresses change, testing may move things around and letters that are mis-addressed may take longer to arrive or not arrive as intended at all. As for the news, they do not normally inform them of incidents unless there are casualties. He likely has not heard about the earthquake, however if you choose to mention it, Keep it light. They have enough going on and do not need more stress. If you haven't yet, you might want to watch the bootcamp videos so you can see more of what they are doing. My son left on 11/19 as well. This waiting to hear thing is definitely, not good for me. As soon as I hear anything I will let you know. Please do the same for me. From what I have hear they do not get news while they are there.Thanks!

My SR is planning on being a Gas Turbine Mechanic. He had his choice of corpman or GSM and he chose GSM. He loves the mechanical side of life. We are out of PA. How about you?
Waiting is not fun for me. I am just hoping to hear something soon. Just a mailing address and division number will be wonderful.

I live in AK and it's so far from my SR! He won't be able to to visit until after A School is our best guess. He was pretty sure he wanted HM from the beginning. He'd like to be attached to a Marine Unit at some point. He's a bit of an adrenaline junkie but his demeanor is pretty calm. His other choice was something in intelligence. He can be pretty snarky and sarcastic and I wonder how that's going!
