LOL Pat! I was asking why they don't pull the ships right into Lake Michigan. LOL Very close to home! Well I did not want him that close to home but Italy!!!!! Pat you were a big help to me when Stephen was going over to Naples, I had no one so when moms were asking me I was glad to help because you were such a good friend and a big help.

Hi Julie!

The Navy Lodge is actually at the other base (NAS). Debby, love your IT document. I hear you about the dream list because Hawaii wasn't on my dream list either and neither is Japan....lol

Julie, welcome to the group. You will be able to visit your son while he is at Corry. It's actually better to visit when they are on Phase 3. Tthat way he can leave the base on Friday and return on Sunday. Just have to make sure you don't go further than 150 miles from the base. There are several hotels right down the street from the base...a 5 min walk and quite a few restaurants. Once they finish A school and have orders he'll get leave before reporting to his first duty station. They typically get 3 weeks leave if they will be stationed in Hawaii, Guam or overseas. Otherwise it's 1 to 2 weeks. It's really up to the receiving command how much leave they get. My daughter has been in since July 07' and she loves it. We're always around if you have questions.

Also yes you can go visit them, Stephen went so fast through class we never got down there to visit. They have a Navy Lodge down there and they are very nice with a kitchen and cheap and it is right outside the base. Pat's daughter is an IT also and is in HA, she helped me a lot when Stephen was just starting out. You will find everyone here very nice and will help you the best we can. Best of luck to your sailor. My son got his dream (he dream not mine) LOL he is in Naples, Italy and is loving it. He has been in the Navy for one year since November 18th.

Hello everyone! We are new to the Navy and this group. Our son left for bootcamp 11/10. His PIR is 1/15 and then he is off to A-School in Pensacola for IT training. So...how does it all work? Can we visit him there? When? Will he get time off to come home before being stationed? Will he have access to e-mail? Anything you could share would be welcomed!
