OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

**UPDATE 4/26/2022** Effective with the May 6, 2022 PIR 4 guests will be allowed. Still must be fully vaccinated to attend.

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

usually they get a phone call after they've been in boot camp for 3 weeks (may be week 4 to you) watch for the 847 area code and the caller id usu says payphone. Does he have an activated calling card?

Keep an eye on your PIR group cause that is a good place to know if his divsion is getting to call.

Phone calls are random when you get them...but usually are in the late afternoon evening but no specific days. It seems that more call on weekends...esp Sat.

Also...start now asking him to let you know when Battlestations is...that is one call you DON'T want to miss. I took the day off from work ( the calls usu come in the afternoon from about 1 or 2 to as late as 7 or 8 but I didn't want to take a chance)

LOL Pammie. first take a deep breath, in and out...feel any better? :) No, probably not until you hear his voice and know he's doing ok, which is usually around week 3. Lucky you, you've gotten two letters already! =) You will probably read them many more times. May even carry them around in your purse for awhile. All perfectly normal. There is already a discussion entitled "Phone Call" by the way, you must have missed it. So here's what you need to know:
Look for the area code 847 to show up on your caller ID. Make sure other family members know too.
Some carriers don't accept calls from payphones, so check with yours, be sure they can get through at home.
Always forward your home phone to your cell if you are going to be out. Be sure he has all the necessary numbers, cell #'s, work #'s etc. In this day and age, most kids haven't memorized our numbers, they use speed dial!
Phone calls can come any day, any time, not even that often on Sundays actually. They are pretty busy having watch, going to chapel, ironing, shining shoes, sleeping, studying, writing you a letter etc. The only calls they are guaranteed to have are the 30 second "I'm here" call when they arrive, the first real call at three weeks in, and the wonderful "I'm a Sailor now" call after Battle stations. Anything else has to be earned-and it can also be lost-as an individual or as a Division.
Because of the unpredictability of those BC calls, you need to warn everyone now that you will be keeping your phone on at ALL times, even at night by your bed, in the bathroom, church, at work, or in a restaurant. You will survive the dirty looks you'll get from those who haven't a clue what it's like to send a precious "child" off to military training! :) Super glue it to your body if you have to. LOL It is very disappointing to miss a call. Sometimes though, they are given another chance to try again later.
So, no don't put your life on hold and become a hermit, afraid to leave your home for 8 weeks. LOL Do what you can to be prepared to receive and then go on about your daily business, and keep WRITING!!! Every day isn't too much. They live for mail call!! :D Hang in there!

I will get better about this posting bit. I did see the post about the phone call, but didn't think about asking a question from that thread??? is that the word I want? The warning will be going out and the phone is stuck to me right now. Well for the most part that is. As much as it can be at this point.
