OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

N4M's Community Guidelines

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends" Forecast by NWS

I am wondering if there is any way to order the division shirts now that the PIR is over??  My son bought one for me, but I would like to buy a couple for other family members.  I tried to get in line at the PIR, but they cut off the line right when I was about to get there.  I am also wondering about the coins.  I didn't have any idea what my son had already purchased.  I know I am probably out of luck, but I thought I would ask.

Thanks CatMom for the information I assumed he would be busy. Unfortunately he was told he could not bring his cell phone back with him and that he would be searched so we still have it. Guess will just wait if someone lets him use a phone. Thanks again!

If your new Sailor has his cellphone, he will contact you when he has a moment as they have a mentor Sailor meeting them at the airport and getting them to their assigned quarters.  He will probably call when he is more settled -- at least you should have communications re-established now!

@Diannep thank you for the advice, I will try that. If I could get the DVD, I'm sure he would appreciate it and it would offer our family some consolation.

By the way, I found a couple groups pertaining to FIT and I was tempted to browse and chat with anyone else who had similar experiences but those haven't been active for the last month or so.

I think this will be my last post in this group (maybe?) but on a more positive note, I am keeping the faith for my sailor-to-be and congratulations to all of today's Sailors!
