OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

N4M's Community Guidelines

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends" Forecast by NWS

mangofruit:  I am one of the N4Moms veterans who has stayed on this site (over 7 yrs now) to help after my own sailor graduated.  So, no, won't be at Sarge's!  But hope you all don't miss his MeetandGreet!  Lots of info and lots of social time to meet other new sailor family members!

About the Navy Lodge. You can stay there if you have a DoD ID. If you do not have a DoD identification your SR is your sponsor. You will put the reservation under your SRs name and they will ask you for information about him/her. It is ok to give them the information they need.

Your SR does not need to know, at this point, that you are staying there, but at some point after PIR they will most likely want your Sailor to go to the front desk.

mangofruit123, glad to hear that you got a letter. I got one today too! He said he wanted a home cooked meal.

I received a letter today! Postmarked Feb it took 4 days to arrive in Rhode Island.
Ellek73 & are both correct about Navy can stay there as your SR's guest but from what I have read he needs to know as he will need to go there to approve that you are staying as his guest. Not sure though if you have to inform him or if he finds out from his RDC. Will either of you be attending Sarges meet and Greet the night b4 PIR? Hope so I hear it is not to be missed!
