It's been some time for me since I was on last, probably December time frame and now it is summer. Sean is still in the Great Lakes. He has been doing some schooling that leads up to A school, but as of yet has not completed A school. We don't expec…

Hi,
Our sailor also PIRed on 11/21 and is scheduled to be FC at GL. Not sure when classes will start but the biggest concern is that she got married last weekend even though we asked her to wait till she got her feet wet in school . . .

Paul has called and wants his phone too. My husband just left for the post office to send it. Paul has been borrowing phones to call me. It will be nice to be able to call him once he gets his phone. He told me yesterday that they will probably be on hold until January, which I guess means that they won't start A school until then. Hurry up and wait! I wonder what they will do until then?????

Oh, you are right! There are 5 of you. I hope you had a good day despite being without Sean this year. I am glad that he called you. I am mailing Tate a box tomorrow.

Paul borrowed a cell phone from someone who went and bought a disposable one, that's the only reason I got calls. Today he said he went to a in doc class, then just hung out the rest of the day. He did give me a new address so I can send his cell phone. He said he can't have clothes yet, so don't bother sending those. It is so nice to be able to talk to him regularly. I love it. That was the hardest part of BC, so I am so glad that is over.

Ann how weird. Tate just called. I asked about Sean & he said he is in a different part of the base than he is but that he probably just hadnt had time to call yet.

Hey Ann, I'm a little short on time today so I may not answer all of your questions right now. A school can run 5 - 7 months long depending on the sailor, it is a self paced computer program and some will finish it faster than others. Our son's graduation date is Dec. 2nd but he finished about a week before that. They typically will go for their orders two weeks before finishing their class and he went last week and got orders to Dahlgren, VA for the Aegis system. It was his first choice!! The C school location and time will vary depending on which system they will be working on. His C school is a long one - I heard 8 or 9 months but we are still waiting to see the hard copy final orders. Some systems train in San Diego and the others are in VA, could be DamNeck, could be Dahlgren and there may even be a school in Norfolk - but I'm not a 100% sure on that one. The sailors that are qualified to meet with the detailer for orders, report in a group two weeks before A school ends and they rate the students based on class gpa, inspections, etc. if there are 20 students going for orders, they will have 20 sets of orders. The student that rates the highest will get first pick all the way down to the 20th student until all the orders are spoken for. Our son wanted Aegis all along and there were three sets of Aegis orders. He was # 3 in the group rating so he was fortunate to get what he wanted. It doesn't always work out that way - so he was lucky! Your son will not know where his C school is or how long it is until this day arrives. I have an eye appointment today but let me know if you have other questions that we can help you with.

Hi Ann, looks like you may be celebrating Sean's PIR! Congratulations to your NEW sailor! Wanted to stop by and welcome you to the AECF group. Our son will be graduating next week as an FC and my husband was an FC for 10 years as well so happy to answer any questions that you may have. Will Sean be an ET or FC? There are plenty of great families for both rates in our group. Let us know if we can be of help.

Congratulations on your sailor! I wanted to contact you earlier in the week, but it was an exhausting week as a teacher. They get so hyper before a holiday. Anyhow, my son was in FIT in June, so I know exactly how you feel. I'll never forget the feeling I had when I got the call ... it was euphoria! You must be so proud of your son :)

About me:
I'm 43 years old and I have 3 children. Sean age 18, Chris 15, and Kim 13.
I have been married for 15 years. I have a wonderful job at Harpers Ferry National Historical Park. My husband runs our skateboard business. We also have a skateboard ministry that is ran by 20 - 25 year olds. They relate much better to skaters. Before the business and ministry have taken over my life. I enjoyed gardening and reading. One day when we move on I'd like to start doing those things again. But for now this is the path we have gone down. There is a time and season for everything and right now it is reaching out to skateboarders.

I'm currently home schooling my daughter also which has been a challenge but we are both learning and growing closer. It was the best move I've made.
