Profile Information

A little about me:
I live in Lubbock, Tx and work as a Elementary school nurse. I have been a nurse for 30 years, but only been with the school system for a year. Married to Gavin, who has been a firefighter for 25 years and we have 3 daughters. Our oldest, Hayley is 23 and leaves for boot camp 11/18/13. Very proud, but also emotional. Wish she wasn't going to be gone during all holidays, including her birthday! I know she made a good decision. Our second daughter, Samantha, age 19, is currently in Kansas on a soccer scholarship, but will be returning in December to attend Texas Tech University. And our youngest daughter, Alex, just turned 12, plays volleyball and is really missing her sisters!

My daughter will not be staying for A school. I am feeling so much better now that I have received a call and letter. She says all is going well but they seem to be a bit chatty and are paying for it. No privacy but she says she has made close friends. I'm happy

Welcome to Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones). I look forward to sharing this journey with you. Be sure to check out the Pages (found under the pictures of the Members) for information on what to expect and to help you prepare for PIR. What is your SR's rating (job/specialty) going to be? There are groups for most ratings and/or "A" Schools and knowing that will help you to better plan for PIR weekend. Take care and blessings to you and yours.

Howdy!  I'm so glad to meet you!  My daughter is in the home stretch of BC (bootcamp) with only 9 days til PIR (graduation).  I can tell you it does get better.  The first couple of weeks are pretty rough, and us moms don't receive hardly any communication.  I received the KIB (kid in a box) 8 days after she left for BC and received the form letter 2 days later.  I truly believe my daughter is a better prepared for BC because she is a little bit older than the bulk of recruits and has had some real life experiences already.  I hope the same will be true for your daughter.  My daughter moved back home for the summer before she headed off to BC, we had a great summer together.  What rate (job) has Hayey chosen?  My daughter will be a HT (engineer/welder).  This is a great site to find out all kinds of info about everything Navy and connect with others going through the same things.

Have a Navy Mom Strong Day!

Join  DEP-Leavin for bootcamp in November.  You will meet others with loved ones leaving that day/week who may be in the same TG and have PIR together. Be sure to check out the discussion, Things to Do in the Last Month before Your Future Sailor Leaves for the RTC. I also suggest you to join Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones) and begin checking out the Pages (found under the pictures of the Members) and Discussions there.
