About me:
Married for 27 years with two children: Trey is 24 and Kay (our sailor) is 22. I'm a registered nurse (for a very long time!) and a nursing instructor at Apollo College in Boise, ID. Originally from the east coast but lived in Texas for 22 years before moving to Boise in 2002. Love the mountains and the climate in this part of the West. Also enjoy reading novels and spending time with family and friends. Just started back to school to get a Master of Science in Nursing degree.
I am here to support or represent my:
Son/Daughter
Stage of (Sailor’s) Navy Career?
Enlisted
When I heard “Navy,” I:
Was proud and encouraged it
From my experience with the Navy, the most important thing I learned was:
I don't really feel like a new Navy mom. I was bred Army and my husband was Navy, so I feel like I've been military my entire life. The hardest thing is watching her return to base at the end of leave. More than anything I've probably learned to keep my mouth shut and let her make her own choices, good or bad, and to render an opinion only when its asked! She has always been independent and is a trait I've encouraged.
Through this Navy experience, I now believe:
It was positive and maturing. Our relationship has grown stronger.

Hi Jane, your wonderful daughter directed me to you. Mine's the very independent sort too. :) You are obviously very proud of her, with good reason! I greeted her and welcomed her to the site the other day. She says you are from Idaho. I'm happy to know we are neighbors and even more thrilled to say my good friend Cindy and the Idaho Moms have found you. here's the address for their page:

while you are at it, do accept the invite I gave to Kay and join the Wa/Ore Moms Group too, since she is stationed there:

A NW sweep! Actually, I'm an honorary member of the Idaho Group, so that would balance it all out. LOL We have lots of Out of State Moms on our Group because of the three bases and Moms near each base (including some ex- military themselves) who have offered their homes and help if Sailors ever have need. In fact, there is a Discussion Group just for Moms with Sailors at Bangor. So see, now you must be curious enough to drop in. :-) Oh, I'm pretty sure there's an MA Group on N4Ms too. Welcome Aboard! Take care, Merry Christmas! Enjoy having Kay home with your family.

Jane....the more the merrier! It's great having a mom's support group. They always talk about moms support groups for the little ones, but not for when they're older. We'll try to get another gathering going after the holidays.

Hi Jane ~ I wanted to say 'hi' and welcome to Navy Mom's. I read in the Idaho Group that you were from the Boise area. My son will be graduating from corpsman school 12/12. His next orders are to report to Camp Pendleton to continue with FMTB training and then FMF. Morgan was living in Seattle when he enlisted and loved living there. I hope your daughter is loving it as well. The moms who got together for pie and coffee are great. We had fun and enjoyed finally meeting each other. There was never any quiet moments...but we were all females! Anyway, please join our group, we'd love to get to know you better and even meet you!

Jane:

There is an Idaho Navy Moms group. Please join us. Seven of us met a couple of weeks ago and it was really great. Please keep in touch. My son, Matthew is stationed in Saratoga Springs New York as an instructor at the Power Training base and has been there since May and he made his E-6 in the last 6 months. He probably won't be able to make it home for Christmas/New Years. Take care and hope to hear from you soon.
