OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Make at least change 3 at the bottom of OPSEC and PERSEC (Making Changes to Your Profile) (clickable link). I suggest "Just My Friends" since you have chosen to include pics on your My Page or you can make change 5 and choose "Members."

If your Username contains your last name, also make changes 1 and 2 to change your Username and the URL (address) to your My Page.

There may be other changes you need to make as well, so read and consider each of the changes.

Another change that I recommend that is mentioned in change 1 is to change the ZIP Code to one that is not easily associated with you or your future Sailor.

Once she swears in at MEPS, you can change "Waiting to leave for Boot Camp" above to “Enlisted” or “At Boot Camp now.” Either is appropriate. You can make that change on the same page when you change the ZIP Code.

Join the group, DEP-Leavin' for Boot Camp in February. You will meet others with loved ones leaving this week who may be in the same TG and have PIR together.

It's getting late, but be sure to check out the discussion, Things to Do in the Last Month before Your Future Sailor Leaves for the RTC.

I also suggest that you join Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones) and begin checking out the Pages (found under the pictures of the Members) and Discussions there. Arrival and What Happens at the RTC within Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones) will let you know what will soon be happening and what to expect.

Be sure to join your PIR group once you get The Form Letter.
