When I heard “Navy,” I:
Was proud, Encouraged him/her
From my experience with the Navy, the most important thing I learned was:
Its harder than I thought to let go! I think I may have taught him to be a little too independent if thats possible. Patience is a definite virtue I thought I had till I had to wait for his letters to finally get to me.

Through this Navy experience, I now believe:
Our relationship has grown stronger, This was a maturing experience, The Navy has a lot to offer, This was the best decision he/she could have made

Now sit right back and you'll hear a tale a tale of a faithful trip.........

Okay guys I have never blogged so bear with me and my Gilligan's island theme. We started this journey Feb 20th when He left for GL and man did the umbilical cord get cut. First I thought I was going to get a call and nothing came so I called the recruiter and got nowhere. I was just another one of those moms. Then came the proverbial box and still nothing, next day the form letter with I love you at the bottom. Still nothing, then 2 and a half weeks later I get the call which of course it was 5… Continue

Season's of Friends

People always come into your life for a reason, a season and a lifetime. When you figure out which it is, you know exactly what to do.

When someone is in your life for a REASON, it is usually to meet a need you have expressed outwardly or inwardly. They have come to assist you through a difficulty, or to provide you with guidance and support, to aid you physically, emotionally, or even spiritually. They may seem like a godsend to you, and they are. They are there for a reason, you need them to… Continue

Hi, Lois and welcome to Sub Moms! I see that you're not really a 'new' Navy mom, but you might like to know of other MEMPHIS moms around here: Karen Gallagher (you know her), Linda, and Sharon johnston. You should find them easily enough by putting "uss memphis" in the 'Search' box at the top of the page. If not, I'm happy to help.

Give a shout whenever you like! Hugs, k.

Sorry to hear of the disappointment, Lois - at least you'll have a much shorter, and I would guess cheaper flight to visit him. The winters here are only slightly milder than Groton. He'll get to enjoy some foreign ports now also, something he wouldn't have got here, unless he was lucky enough to wind up on either the Seawolf or Connecticut.

No problem Lois, it looks like my son will be in Groton until late in the fall - he's hoping for an SSGN out of Bangor after that.

Since you were here last, Silverdale has grown incredibly. There is quite a bit of new development on the Bremerton waterfront as well. I'm a Navy civilian, that was on active duty twenty years ago, so don't really know the deal on the Navy lodge and Navy housing. I haven't rented around Bremerton or Port Orchard for a number of years either, and I'm sure the current recession has affected the rental market as well. I imagine a decent one-bedroom can be had for around $600/mon. but that's a guess. If you want to check out the rental market in an online search, I'd be happy to tell you about specific neighborhoods that you find leads on.
