Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Yes, "No news is good news!"
Recruits who are moved to the RCU are generally able to make calls every other week (usually on Saturday or Sunday), but those calls can be lost if someone in the compartment messes things up for everyone or if the recruit made a call that week following a test or other appointment.
There is info on the RCU for you in What does ??? mean? (A Guide to Navy Abbreviations and Terminology), Ship/Division--How it Works, and Battle Stations-21 (BST).
I suspect that your recruit has a contract for Aviation Boatswain's Mate – Aircraft Handling (ABH), so join AB - Moms, Sailors In Pensacola, FL For A School....Corry Station too!!, and Parents of A School Sailors in Pensacola. You may also want to check out Airman Family and Friends.
The Rating Information Card for AB can be found at https://www.cool.navy.mil/usn/enlisted/rating_info_cards/ab.pdf. (If you get the security warning, it is safe to go there.)
Your Sailor will most likely fly out to "A" School the day after PIR, but may fly out on Sunday due to flight availability issues. Plan to leave on Sunday if you are able. See PIR Day and Liberty During PIR Weekend to help you know how to plan your weekend.
Mama3Girls,
I have been in your same shoes Mama and I understand your pain. Sending our girls off to bootcamp is just not the same as sending our loved ones off to college. Not all of our friends or other family members can always relate. You are so right - your home will never be the same as it was. One of my daughters is out now and just about ready to graduate from college after putting in her 4 years. Even tho we talk just about every day, and I try to visit as often as I can, I still miss having her at home every day!!!! Hang in there, be strong, blessings to your daughter and your family!!!
Mama3Girls713,
I see you recently joined the Moms of Daughters 2 group and I want to welcome you!!! We are a friendly, caring group of moms always willing to listen and support. Please feel free to jump in and join our chats on the group page!! We like to discuss everything from our sailors to our jobs, weather, whatever. It's also a great place if you want to yell, scream, vent, cry - - there is no judgment involved!!! You can ask any questions you may have, talk freely about your feelings, fears or concerns, or just chat about life. We are all in different phases of our daughters Naval careers and we are always there for each other!!! Brag about your sailor but also tell us when you are hurting because you miss her so!!! Looking forward to getting to know you and your sailor!! Again, Welcome Aboard!!!!
