The only difference in my son (when he comes home on leave compared to before the Navy) is that if he wants something ironed he does it himself instead of asking us. His room is still the mess it was before he left home 3 years ago. We know he can...

Welcome Linda! Your son will not be alone. Other sailors with or without family usually invite the single guys over if the ship is not doing something. My son has been in Hawaii for 2 years now and has never spent a holiday alone. Someone will tak...

Julie, I will be there from the 1st through the end of the week. My son is on stand down that week and is very excited that we are finally coming to see him. What boat is your son on?

Ladies, do not feel bad for crying and missing your sailor. When my son left for BC, I knew nothing about this site or any other site. I had no one to talk to about my feelings. I had to leave work early 1 day because I "lost it" and could not sto...

I will ask my son. He had a car broken down but don't know how he got it moved. It may take a few days, he is not at base right now.

That is great news Denise! Thanks and you have a great holiday with your son and grandson.

Also Kirsten, don't give up hope yet. In March of this year my son requested leave (his first time home in 18 months!) for his younger brother's high school graduation in May. He never received word if it was approved or not. We all assumed it was...

Sorry to hear that Kirsten. Maybe he will be invited to eat with one the other sailors. That is what my son did last year. If he doesn't know anyone yet, Pat's suggestions on the MWR site are a good idea.

Hi Katie! You will definitely have a wonderful Thanksgiving now! Congrats.

My son has not been home for Christmas since he enlisted 3 years ago. The first year he had just had his PIR and shipped to Sub School. He chose to come home for New Year's instead of Christmas because most of the guys requested Christmas and he k...

Is this the address I need to use when he is out on a 6 month deployment? Or should I already be using it? I have been sending things to his civilian address, I think.
November 22
Yes, quals are much harder than BC and Sub School. But, you have to be qualified or "pinned" before you can really contribute. The sailors are hard on the new guys, but only to make them work hard for their quals. It sounds bad but it is a kind of...

Profile Information

About me:
I am the proud mom of a Navy Submariner stationed at Pearl Harbor on the USS Olympia. I have been married to my soul mate for 28 years and have 1 younger son also. Originally from Southern Louisiana, we moved to OK the day after the wedding, then moved to Lafayette, LA where my sailor was born. My younger son was born in Tulsa, OK and is now going to college for film editing. I love music of almost any kind, playing computer games, reading and making new online friends.
I am here to support or represent my:
Son/Daughter
Stage of (Sailor’s) Navy Career?
Enlisted
When I heard “Navy,” I:
Was proud and encouraged it
From my experience with the Navy, the most important thing I learned was:
You have to let go and let your child make their decision. Make sure they research carefully but encourage and support them in their decision. Life goes on as children grow up. You can not believe how proud you will be of your child when they graduate boot camp. The 8 weeks at boot camp brings about wonderful changes.
Through this Navy experience, I now believe:
It was positive and maturing. Our relationship has grown stronger.

Rhonda: Our son is stationed at Pearl Harbor aboard the USS Crommelin. We went out 3 years ago for an anniversary trip (b/4 our son was stationed there) and the flight was long from Atlanta. We flew Delta under a friend who is a pilot, and got first class, so that was wonderful. When you board (I'm assuming that you booked coach) tell them your medical condition and if there is a seat in first class, they may move you there!!! Have an excellent time in HI...we're headed back to see our sailor in December!!! ALOHA

Hello Rhonda8881 my son is on the USS Cheyenne out of Pearl Harbor, Hi. He's seem to be having a great time. Lots of hard work but on his time off he goes out with the guys to surf or airsoft. He said he went to a club also. He will soon have his car so he will be able to see more of the island. Glad to hear you'll be out there next year. :)
