You are very welcome. Ask anything you need either on my My Page or in one of the groups. There are many who can also answer. (I won't be on for about a week beginning Wednesday because of some wonderful things I will be doing with my daughter.)

If you are referring to the regulations concerning cutting the hair, they have not changed. Female recruits at the RTC must have hair above the collar and it must be cut. We have heard the rumor for quite some time (it's been going around for many years) that that has changed, but it has not. The rumor that recruits can keep cell phones also keeps coming up and they can't keep those either.

This is in Things to Do in the Last Month before Your Future Sailor Leaves for the RTC since I get asked that frequently. It's near the bottom so I can understand how you may have missed it.

Females should get their hair cut in the last week before leaving. Have her go to a good stylist and have her hair cut well above collar length and she should be fine and may not even need another haircut until A School. If her hair touches her collar when she arrives, or is close to it, it will be cut. The hair must be cut for BC and after that, the female Sailor will be able to wear her hair in a bun when in uniform. (See http://www.public.navy.mil/bupers-npc/support/uniforms/uniformregul....) Hair pins and barrettes that match the hair color may be permitted. Corn rows that are uniform in size and distance apart and do not include beads or other adornment have been permitted for some as long as the length is above the collar for those females with hair that would better be styled in that manner. There are some videos on youtube that discuss appropriate hairstyles for females while in Navy BC and afterwards.

There are no groups for just loved ones of Gas System Mechanic (GSM), but you may find some in Engineers, Snipe Moms, and Snipe Moms(enginers). You will also want to join Great Lakes A School Q&A and GL A-school moms. You can also check out the Training Support Center (TSC) Great Lakes Facebook Page. The Rating Information Card for GSM can be found at https://www.cool.navy.mil/enlisted/rating_info_cards/gsm.pdf. You will be able to enjoy extra time with your Sailor following PIR. (See PIR Day and Liberty During PIR Weekend.)

Join the group, DEP-Leavin for bootcamp in March.  You will meet others with loved ones leaving that day/week who may be in the same TG and have PIR together. Be sure to check out the discussion, Things to Do in the Last Month before Your Future Sailor Leaves for the RTC. I also suggest you to join Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones) and begin checking out the Pages (found under the pictures of the Members) and Discussions there. You may want to check out Mom’s of Navy Daughters, Mom's of Daughters 2, and Women in the Navy.

Your future Sailor may want to join http://www.navydep.com to learn the ins and outs from the DEP point of view. Craig runs that and will steer her to some good links on there.
