Stephanie, It was great hearing from you today. I'm so sorry to hear about this. I hope it all works out for Nick. He deserves to be able to stay in.

It's of little consolation, but if you type in 'National Call to Service' in the search box you'll find that your son is just one more sailor to be burned by this program. I don't think anyone, even the recruiters, ever really understood this mess...

Nicolas left for BootCamp in March of 08 and is now currently serving on the USS Harry Truman. He was enlisted under the National Call to Service Program. I was with him as he went through the ENTIRE process. It was explained to us he woud have 18...

About me:
My name is Stephanie and I live in Modesto California. My son left for Boot Camp in Great Lakes from San Jose Ca on March 10th 2008. He is now stationed on the US Harry S Truman at Norfolk Shipyard in Porstmouth VA. His preferance was to do submarines however apparently due to his eyesight not being correctable to 20/20 and can only be fixed by Lasik to 20/30 he was not eligable for many different jobs that he was interested in which made me very sad as he had scored Extreamly high on his ASVAB..damm Genes!! LOL He got my mothers eyes. I am still having a very difficult time with him being gone. He is my only child and I have been mother and father to him since his father ran like the wind when he was 18 months old and we have not heard from him since. So this is a very very hard transition for me. I am very glad to have found this site to connect with others dealing with the same things I am. In fact I called his recriuter today and scolded them. I know they deal with alot of needy mothers such as myself so I asked them if they were aware of the site. The recruiter said yes. I said well then FOR GODS SAKE WHY DIDNT YOU TELL ME!! LOL I know it would have made me alot calmer about alot of things if someone had told me about it. So hopefully now they will do so and continue to spread the word. Its great to have an outlet such as this.

This is the blog I found on my son's Myspace page..it was written at 4:30 am the morning he was about to be put on a plane to Bootcamp.. I was actually feeling slightly calmer until I found it.. You wonder what is going through their minds as they are about to embark into this new adventure and chapter of their lives.. I was lucky enough to see EXACTLY what he was feeling.... I still cry when I read it...

Six Hours
Current mood: restless

Six Hours from my life, Six Hours from my future, Six Hours from being Proud, and Six Hours to Wait.

My mind doesnt sleep during the night as I slumber, and my soul yearns for the existance of another presence to hold me as I wake. Death is now a constant fear that haunts me with its trickery. This present state of mind that I have acquired can only humor me for the while, until I can clear it before my insanity tears through what used to be my calm.

It seems it is about ten minutes now until I must be weighed and and measured before I go to slaughter. So in order to reveal some of my feeling I thought I would vent here, trying to gain some calm for my mind, but it will not come.

An update on Nick & A BIG FAT THANK YOU!

Well I guess everything happens for a reason as they say right? My last blog was regarding how upset I was with how my son had NOT spent any time with family when he came home for his first leave between A school and his new post which is on the USS Harry S Truman. The Truman is now parked at Norfolk Naval Shipyard in Portsmouth VA until January when it gets moved acroos the water to Norfolk Naval Base.

Since this was Nicks first post he was excited ...until he got there. After hearing things h… Continue

I am back..again.. its been a hard road ..

I know I have been gone and here I am aplogizing again.. however..I need to explain why. After Nick did his PIR in May things changed dramatically. I am heartbroken and dont quite know what to make of this and how to deal.

Nick finished A school, then the class for his rate. He did very well in both. He hasnt gotten in trouble, and was looking forward to getting based somewhere. He was hoping for San Diego and was told it was a great possiablity. Unfortunatly for us he was assigned to Norfol

Why I have been MIA...sorry..guys I suck..lol

First of all thank you for all the messeges and wondering where I have been since Nicks PIR.. I have had a flurry of activity since we got home. Our trip to Great Lakes was actually almost a week long. Mom and I took a Red Eye out of San Francisco..flew all night in HORRIABLE turbulance.. had to get our car Rental then drive to our hotel. We checked in around 830am and were both passed out unconcious but 10am..slept for several hours then both woke up to go to our PIR dinner with our AwesoContinue

Hi Stephanie,
I'm glad to hear that things are getting back to normal for your family. I am so sorry about the loss of your grandmother. I'm glad that Nick is in Norfolk now. It's a much better base. I was wondering why we hadn't heard from him; glad to hear he is out to sea. When does the ship come back in? Ryan still hasn't started classes. Everytime he gets a start date, it gets cancelled. He stays busy cleaning and having watch duty. He doesn't call all that often but he sends me a text three or four times a day. It's funny; the things he thinks to tell me. My family went sking this past weekend and it was nice that we got to all pass my cell around and talk to him. My great nephews were so excited. They just kept saying that I'm talking to Ryan from the Navy. Not sure where they think "the Navy is". I hope you and your family are doing well; I'll talk to you soon,

Oh Stephanie,
I am so sorry to hear about your grandmother. Is there anything we can do? Please let me know. I tried to call Nick the other day but I guess they're still getting ready for the big move. I'll try again this weekend. Again, if you need anything, let me know. Theresa

Haven't heard from you in a couple of weeks; you ok? I called Nick the other day but didn't get an answer. Is the Truman in the process of moving? Ryan is loving GL but getting tired of the snow. When you talk to Nick, tell him we asked about him. Talk to you soon,Theresa
