I produced a cookbook for my church in 1993. I typed the whole thing on a typewriter. So, let's talk in 2010 about that. Dori, I know you're kidding and as Maryellen confirmed, the others do too. And good thing you told me to keep the grubby mitts…

DC- we all know your kidding, In this day and age if we can't have alittle fun and poke at each other what else can we do. Sue I think HAE should have there own cook book, the ships do them why can't we.

A Sailor's Christmas

Twas the night before Christmas, the ship was out steaming,
Sailors stood watch while others were dreaming.

They lived in a crowd with racks tight and small,
in a 80-man berthing, cramped one and all.

I had come down the stack with presents to give,
And to see inside just who might perhaps live.

I looked all about, a strange sight did I see,
No tinsel, no presents, not even a tree.

No stockings were hung, shined boots close at hand,
On the bulkhead hung pictures of a far distant land.

They… Continue

More Tiger Answers

Hi all,
I had hoped to refer you the Lincoln website and the Tiger link, but it is gone. Here are a few basics:
who can't go: spouses, boy/girlfriends, significate others-Navy doesn't want relations on the ship. It is still a fully functionable ship and the sailors have a job to do.

Who can go: parents, step parents, grandparents, siblings, friends, extended family. It is based on available spots, and health. First come, first served, then health issues are the deciding factor. I met a couple o… Continue

Tiger Cruise explained

Hi all,
I've gotten many comments and I appreciate that. My husband went to Virginia Beach today to see our son, so I have been busy getting him ready for his trip.

A tiger cruise is when the Navy allows civilans to ride the aircraft carrier from Hawaii to San Diego or Everett, Washington. I would imagine that the Atlantic fleet does the same. You live where the sailors live, in other words, there aren't guest quarters. And yes, I did ask my son that question. He laughed pretty hard.

It is an… Continue

Tiger Cruise

Hi all,
I am new to this site. It is inspiring to read about other boys and girls (really young men and women). My husband and I have just returned from the Tiger Cruise aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln. We flew to Hawaii on 10-1 and set sail for San Diego on 10-3. What an adventure and I would encourage anyone else to take it if they can! It was an experience of a lifetime. We lived as the sailors do and boy, it is hard work!
I wrote a daily blog for my local news station and you can read it ther… Continue

Sue - Thank you. Yes, my son is stationed in San Diego. I thought maybe you made individual cases. You are doing a wonderful thing - so much appreciated!!!! Am in the middle of baking cookies to send to a lonely Sailor overseas (trying not to eat them as I go along lol). I will check out HAE - is it just by the initials? Do not know what this standsfor. Thank you for taking time out to respond to me I know you are quite busy (yes an understatement for you lol).

Yes those are the pictures of the new media/sewing room. I won't be moving my things down there until after the holidays. Right now the christmas tree, etc. are down there. It will be in the area on the oposite side of the room from the couch in the picture.

Sue,
I have Stacy's address:
Stacy Romena
1524 Bedford Rd. #1124
Bedford, Tx 76021
If you could send her a pillow-case, that would be great. We plan on having cards and gifts for her when she gets back to Texas.
By the way, how do I order 2 pillow cases? Please let me know.
Thank you,
Kate
