Jimmy's PIR is Jan 14- we'll be staying at the Ramada in Waukegan(?). The prices are very reasonable! I'm OK with Jimmy sending the letter to his girlfriend... I remember when I was their age... I would have done the same thing! I'm glad you got your box and a note.... real letters will be coming soon! have a happy thanksgiving!

I hope all is well for you and your daughter! Jimmy sent the letter to his girlfriend (not to me!) but I guess that's as it should be. He said his life "really blows" right now. I can imagine!! :) But it's all good... this will build character! Hang in there- keep in touch!

I wonder how many other kids from WNY will be in boot camp together? Jimmy will be going down to Charleston, NC afterwards to "A" School.

Hello! Here is what I posted earlier today, that kind of sums up Jimmy's experience, and why he joined the Navy:

My son Jimmy just started boot camp on November 9. Actually I think he got there around 11:00 pm on the 9th. Anyone else in that group? Sometimes I wonder if I'm not a good mom. Jimmy is 21- went to college at 17 and did nothing but drink and party. He flunked out.... wasting thousands of my hard-earned dollars. He took a couple years off to work and party.... didn't live at home because I wouldn't have it. When he was not eating and unable to pay his bills, I made him come back home. He finally decided to go back to community college... and then proceeded to NOT GO to class at all. *sigh*. That's when he said "It's OK- I'm joining the Navy." So for me... I'm not all emotional about all the hard work and "suffering" they have to endure... I'm GLAD and even a little gleeful that my son is having to have discipline imposed upon him, since he couldn't impose it on himself. Does anyone else feel this way? It seems I'm the only mom here who isn't feeling heartbroken about their son/daughter's absence. I love him, don't get me wrong... but this is absolutely the best thing for him, and he's been away from home and "in the world" for long stretches prior to this, so I'm used to it. I wonder if I'm the only one who feels this way.

Hello! My son Jimmy left for boot camp yesterday. He arrived today... but I haven't gotten the call from him yet. I wonder if he just had too much going on when he got there. I'm very excited that he's starting this new phase of his life.
