Hi Hopeesmom- This is the VFA-83 Ombudsman emailvfa83ombudsman@gmail.com  this is Darlene Steier  VFA-83 Ombudsman telephone # 757-648-8309 and 757-448-8026.  Darlene is really nice and I only call her if it is a big emergency. (like last deployment when my son took both sets of keys to his truck on the ship and I could not get back on the base without him, she picked me up and got me on base and her husband found my son and he brought the keys to me, got an extra good bye kiss too!)

this is another group you want to join FRG ( Family Readiness Group), another great support group and they will send you emails of what they are doing for our sailors and monthly events in VA (I don't attend them but get the info-it is a 5 hour drive for me to VA)the email is < vfa83frg@yahoo.com>  .  Just let them know that your daughter was 1 deployment and you would love whatever info you can get.  Be patient, if your daughter didn't already have an email set up, it can take a little while.  That ship can carry up to 5000 men and women and the sailors setting up email are pretty busy when they first leave port.  My son has never called from the ship, it can be very depressing because most of the time you lose connection and it becomes frustrating. He usually buys a throw-away phone and what ever port  they come into he buys a sims card.  I would venture to guess they might have a port soon, the first deployment it was about 10 days out and we received a call.  So I am sure your daughter will figure out how to find a phone and give mom a big SHOUT OUT!  I hope this helps alittle.  This weekend I am going to VA with my hubby to pick up his truck and bring some things home from apartment that he doesn't want left there (don't know how long they will be out).  His roommate is also in the squadron and he didn't leave on deployment yet because he broke his foot a month ago and should be flying out to the ship in about 2 weeks.  We will get him out to dinner and have a nice time in VA.  I don't know all the answers to the questions  but i will help you out if i can.  Have a great night!   Navybrat-Brenda
