We stayed at the Marriott Courtyard Inn in Waukegan/Gurnee. It was a nice place. We were charged $118 per night. I decided to stay there after reading many stories of unhappy experiences at other places in the area. The weekend of our PIR there was also a youth hockey tournament. The hotel offered to put us on the 3rd floor - away from the 1st and 2nd floors where many of the hockey families were staying. It worked out well. Breakfast is available at the hotel but is an additional expense. They were ready to serve at 5:30am. Other families were already eating when we arrived. The hotel staff was very nice. They had no problem with our cancelling our Saturday night stay due to our sailor leaving Saturday morning. That was much appreciated too. Oh, and if you are going to Sarge's Meet and Greet at the Sundance Saloon, that is very close to the Courtyard Inn. And, I made our reservations directly with the hotel. They said they gave me the Navy graduation rate. I didn't check their rates otherwise. We had just learned of the youth tournament and I wanted to be sure we had a place to stay that was close to the Navy base. If there are additional questions or concerns I'd be glad to reply. It was a great but quick weekend!

Yes, I got a phone call today too!  and a real letter!  wow it's almost too much to handle in one day.... sounds like things are really looking up for their div.  I think the "rule followers" are taking over the div.  yay!  I was so happy to hear her say it's getting better!

Yay for our girls!  Yay for phone calls!! Yay for letters!!  This just made my day...no week....no month!!

I'm so happy our girls found each other and that we found each other!

oh wow, that would be so cool if our girls are good friends!  I just love great danes!  We used to have a girl great pyrenees named Sugar, she was a gentle giant - so loving.  I will ask my daughter about her friends first name in my next letter.  They aren't taking out her wisdom teeth yet, I think maybe it's because she will stay in GL for her next schooling and they can do it later.  They did give her a filling.  My SR's first name starts with a S.

Have a wonderful evening!

Yes, MA's have to have their driver's license because of all the patrol work that they do. My Sailor is an MA so I'm pretty familiar with the requirements. I don't think any other rating has that prerequisite. One Sailor was held up at GL for several weeks because hers expired while she was at GL.

It sounds like your SR has a contract within the F-PACT program, so the information within Professional Apprenticeship Career Tracks (PACT) Program will be of interest to you.

Awww, Bambi is a such a sweet name.  The pug in my profile pic is Lola and her sister is Roxie.  Our daughter brought her cat Kikameow home with her this summer so we can take care of her.  Not used to a cat in the house, but we have become very attached to her....looks like she is ours for quite a while.  I saw on here some moms sending letters from family pets to their SR....I am working on that letter now.  She has made some friends...her bestie's last name starts with a B and ends with a R.  I believe my daughter is doing better than she thinks, it's always been easy to vent to me...I just need to take it with a grain of salt considering what she is going through.  My daughter's last name starts with a H and ends with a N.  She is a blue-eyed blonde with a short buzz cut.  I found another mom of a girl in our girl's division.  My daughter said she does know her daughter.  Yes, we will have 3 at PIR, mom, dad and big sis.  We are staying at Sleep Inn very close to base.  Our oldest daughter will fly in, hubby and I would like to drive...but haven't really decided yet...although oldest daughter gave us till tomorrow to decide.  haha  She hates last minute decisions.

Have a wonderful day!!

Welcome to Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones). I look forward to sharing this journey with you. Be sure to check out the Pages (found under the pictures of the Members) for information on what to expect and to help you prepare for PIR. What is your SR's rating (job/specialty) going to be? There are groups for most ratings and/or "A" Schools and knowing that will help you to better plan for PIR weekend. Take care and blessings to you and yours.

I feel your pain. I miss my son so much too. Luckily, we had his wisdom teeth pulled before he left. I'm wishing all these kids the best and that boot camp would be over soon. Good luck and hang in there. Maybe we will meet at graduation. :(((

Yes, awesome to meet you!  My daughter is 23 years old.  She is my youngest, but had been 300 miles away the last few years, until this summer.  We did have an awesome summer!  She said she was miserable, had no "free time" to do anything I think because of other duties.  She has passed the swim test, she was a lifeguard and wasn't really worried about that one.  She should have passed the sit-ups and push-ups, but her partner lost count on them.  For the good news, she did say the quickest way out of there is to graduate...must have heard that from the RTCs.  I guess there are some girls in their div that want to be sent home.  I know my SR won't give up, she just wants BC to be behind her.   She said she has made friends, but also locked horns with another girl.  I hope this div gets it together and works as a team soon....it will make the rest of BC much better for all of them.  It broke my heart to hear her so sad, but no one ever said BC would be easy.  She did say that they have 150 recruits in their div and their brother div.  I wonder if that means 75 girls and 75 boys or ??.
