It's IA...oops, individual augmentation. They use active military instead of reserves.

Actually, he (Obama) is calling for 17,000 more troops in Afghanistan. Just wanted to know if anyone else heard anything about it, or have someone who volunteered for this "opportunity". They are looking for a couple of volunteers. It will be up to…

Has anyone else's son, boyfriend, husband said anything about AI??? Jon volunteered for it, but said there's a chance they may not let him go. He said the lines yesterday for the phones was ridiculous and didn't ever get to call. I hope he doesn't g…

About me:
REALLY looking forward to retirement. I'm a nurse working 12 hr. weekend shifts in the hospital's step-down unit and clinical instructor for the local community college during the week. My children are grown. My daughter is a flight attendant and younger son is the reason I'm on this as you can see. I'm not computer savy, so forgive my lack of skills. I'll try to get better this year. I love to travel and have relatives in Nantucket, Key West, NYC and NJ, Houston, Chicago, and of course...San Diego. I have a hard time venturing somewhere new with all of these great places.

Oh Roberta. I will keep Jon in my thoughts and prayers as he participates in his dad's burial at sea. It will be emotional but what an honor to give his Dad his final send off. Appropriate that his son be able to help him with his final wish. Blessing and peace to your whole family.

Hi Roberta, Guy didn't send any pics from the fishing trip so I'd love to see any if you can get your g'daughter to help you upload them. I was begging Guy to send us a photo of him with his beard. But he never sent any. He has a real heavy beard and hates shaving twice a day to meet regs. I guess while they are out at sea they are allowed to grow their beards but have to shave before they leave the ship in port. He was so funny explaining his beard is going gray....at 26! He's shocked and bummed. I told him he takes after his grandpa's side of the family...don't worry about the gray cuz he'll have a full head of hair and won't go bald til 90's.

Guy did tell us more about the Mahi Mahi fishing party/bbq. He didn't mention there were pictures but he said he caught the first one. He had a great time on shore leave..actually met up with another friend who was down there on other business and got to spend Christmas with him hanging out at the hotel.

We had a big musical party at our house on the 27th. This is an annual event that's been in our family for almost 100 years. Over 50 folks singing and performing We kept moving a big picture of Guy around the room pretending Guy was there with us performing. We missed him but had his pic and spirit there with us.
Gotta run take my niece to the airport. She's headed back to NYC.

Hi there, my hubby is on the Davis as well. He is a FC. He had duty on Christmas. I will ask him if he knows Jon. How long has he been on the Davis. My hubby has been with this ship for 3 years now. This is his second deployment to down South, but this is my first.

We are expecting our first child Feb 27th, so we are so excited! I just pray that he would be able to come home for his birth. We are having a little boy! YAY! I can't wait to meet him and see what he looks like. I pray that he looks like his daddy! :-)

Well, I am glad to hear that all is well with your son and that you were able to hear from him. I love getting the phone calls when they are in port. My hubby and 2 of "my boys (they call me momma) :-) all stayed at a hotel last night and enjoyed sleeping in a regular bed.

I hope that you had a wonderful Christmas! Talk to you soon!

Hi Roberta,
We heard from our son twice today! He is on the town and happy to be sleeping in a real bed. You are right, Guy did a double major in Geology & Anthropology at U of Colorado. He calls it "Rocks and Monkeys" I wonder if he will go back to that in some way after the Navy and use the helicopter flying to combine with it some way. Who knows. That is nine years down the road. You are right....,it is so good to hear their voices. We had our whole family around the speaker phone. It was such fun. We miss him terribly. We had his full picture by the table tonight when we had my twin sister and her whole family arrive from Maryland. It was like there was a big hole in the fabric of our family without Guy with us. But he sounded so great when we talked to him. He had some funny stories to share about fishing off the ship. So glad to hear they get some levity in during their long days.
Thanks for writing back. We send our Christmas greetings and hope you had a nice day today. Sleep tight.

Hi Roberta....your son is in HSL 43 ? So is my son. We just talked to him today and it was so good to hear his voice. Best Christmas present we could get. He mentioned that they received some mail today but it was the last batch we sent. He still has yet to receive two other mailings we sent in Novemeber. I guess the HSL detachment groups mail is getting diverted all over the place except to where they are., We are hoping it catches up to them soon. When our son calls again today I'll ask if he knows your son.
Merry Christmas.....may your phone be ringing today too !
