Waiting to leave for Boot Camp
When I heard “Navy,” I...
Was proud and encouraged it

The military is like an extended family. They always support one another and have guided my son in a great path for his life.
Our Navy experience so far...
It was positive and maturing. Our relationship has grown stronger.

Excited to talk to others who understand what I wil be going through

Well I knew oneday my boy would leave for the military; he's talked about the Navy since he was in 7th grade. I am full of emotions; excited, nervous, anxious, happy, and sad. Not knowing what to expect makes me uneasy but as time goes on it is getting easier. Just 4 more months and he leaves for the Great Lakes. I am trying to prepare myself early but somehow I don't think you can truly prepare for "the day"!

I just keep thinking, "you can handle this, he'll be fine". We'll see how well I handle it when the day gets here.

Hi

My son who will turn 18 next month is also leaving for boot camp in July. Like your son he has always talked about joining the military (since he was 11) and made the final decision to join the Navy about 4 years ago. Not once did he ever change his mind or think that he was not doing the right thing.  Like you I'm so very proud but also anxious. He is my last child to leave the nest and it is just so sad to think that the time for him to leave is coming so fast. Hang in there. We will get through this.
