thanks Tracy ! very informative
hi all ! happy sunday. i am in need for some advice:
we will stay in Chicago into the next week after PIR, would it be a good idea for us to bring some of my son's street clothes from home for him to have during his A school? i will bring his laptop and cell phone, I think those are okay to give him, not during liberty, of course. :] i have read that's a no-no. I do plan on bringing some clothes for the hotel, if he chooses to kick back or nap. what would you do?
thanks
Hey Fina!
I think I read somewhere that even if they go swimming in the hotel pool they are supposed to have a navy issued swimsuit that you buy at the NEX and it is supposed to be ok'd by the officers. As far as laptop and cell, I don't think that they can take those back to the base. I was told to put that and street clothes into a box and mail to the A school after they arrive there. Really doesn't make much sense to me, but I guess it is due to limited space in the barracks at bootcamp. Where will your son go to A school? Tripp is headed to Pensacola. Have you heard anything about the Battlestations? From what I can guess it will start on 4/2 or 4/3 for our division, but is just a guess. This should be an exciting week!
Hi! I heard the same...Jon said in his last letter that he can not bring anything back to the base. I've heard that they earn priviledges through A school like cell, laptop, etc. so he may not even be able to have it as soon as A school begins. I would wait to hear from him. As far a clothes in Chicago - he has to be in uniform at all times. Big trouble will be in store for him if they see him in street clothes. Jon's requests for PIR weekend were Q-tips - lol - funniest request Ive ever had! 11 days ladie - can you believe it - just 11 short days!
Oh my --- tomorrow will officially put us in the single digits til we get to see our guys/gals! It is amazing how the time seemed to move so slow for so long and then boom - here we are! I'm anxious to get a letter this week. They had a lot of inspections and a big test this past week. Jon's birthday is April 5th - it will be his first birthday away from me in 19 years! Well - Battlestations are around the corner! WooHoo!
Yes, we've been counting down the days since Tripp left for boot camp on February 11th -- Sarah and I downloaded a "countdown calendar" and look at it every day. We've got the number of days til his PIR, the number of days he's been gone, and the number of days (roughly!) til his 4 years are up! lol Sarah's still a bit dismayed over the Navy's rules against being all happy and lovey and gooey with the sailors while in uniform, but I think she'll be happy just to gaze upon him! ;) Ah, young love...!

I'm so excited about meeting all of you NEXT WEEK! Can't believe it's already at that point that we can say "next weekend" and such! I keep all of our young sailors and all of you -- their families, friends and loved ones -- in my prayers each and every day. Battle stations are coming up and I know they'll all take charge and pass with flying colors! A friend of mine saw Tripp's picture and asked who he was. Sarah said, "That's my boyfriend, he's in the Navy." My friend said, "Well sweetie, he goes into the Navy as a boy, but he's coming out a man. You will be very, very proud." I know we all are already! <3
Anyone get a letter today with a battlestation date on it? Hope everyone's hanging in there - oooohhhhh Im so excited I can't concentrate at work, at school and darn it my laundry is piling up cuz I stare at the countdown every 5 minutes! LOL

Jon only mentioned inspections and a final test but didn't say anything about battlestations...I sure wish I knew! :p
amayes, how u doing ? i got a letter from my son dated 3/28 stating 'battle stations this monday night through tuesday morning' i dunno... he said 'this week is pivotal, but wouldnt we have received a "SAILOR CALL" by now?
perhaps he meant next week..? lol i am so confused. prayers 24/7 :]
Hi! Im good - you?
Thanks for the info! Battlestations is that final test so supposedly we get the "I'm a Sailor" call the day after. It's crazy I see some have it on the Wednesday before graduation - That sure cuts it close! Well I'm sure all our recruits will do just great! His 19th birthday is Monday and I am hoping they let him make a call home - that would ease some anxiety!
See you in week!
Hey Everybody!
Tripp's letter also said battlestations are Monday and sailor call will be Tuesday. He wrote the letter the day before the gas chamber, so no info on how that went. Having to go through that has bothered me more than anything, and I am going on no news, good news. We are a week away! I am in constant prayer for all of our recruits and can't wait til we all get the sailor call! This weekend can't go by fast enough!
amayes - happy birthday to your son !
Betsy - my son will be staying in GL "A" schooL. He said he will report on Weds after PIR.
a LOT of emotions here, that's for sure !
blue candle burning brightly every evening we are home.
I am sad though, because I will most likely be at work, in the basement with no cell reception, when my son calls on Tuesday after battlestations... the "SAILOR CALL"...
I pray he will get through to his dad...
happy Sunday night... hence a new week begins... an important week for ALL...
OUR children/spouses will be SAILORS (Gods willing),
WE, including our loved ones, will travel from different places of the United States to see and feel a pride that most of US has only read about...
WE, as a group, will be united in a way that all the blogs and postings cannot decipher...
the bond WE have as parents/loved ones of SAILORS will be strong...
WE are proud... WE are NAVY proud !
GOD bless US ALL... ♥
